I live in a manufacuered housing park and my neighbor across the street setup a video camera pointed at my house. I don't quite know why. I host a card game every fri or sat night and there is maybe five cars parked in the street, but we keep the noise to a respectable level. I rarely if never have more than one visitor over at a time during the week. This guy is always watching me and my family and i don't like it. Now he's got a 24 hr survelence camera pointed at my house. what can I do about it and is it legal? Please help |

Go to the manager of the park and show him the camera. He and you can ask for it to be moved. If the neighbor doesn't,
then call the police and lodge an invasion of privacy complaint against him. |

Simply taking footage of your house isn't illegal as far as I know. But what you describe sounds like an invasion of privacy. Call the police and see what they say. It appears that your rights may be infringed upon in this situation. |

No, it is not legal. its called invading your privacy and yes you can take legal action for fear that the person in question is mentally unstable to add. Even cops are not supposed to follow you and watch your every move unless they have probable cause but, even that can only last so long before its harassment. |

It seems he could be invading your privacy. I would contact local police and ask them if there is anything you could do. If he had the camera pointing into the street, he would be taping anyone walking down the street, but since it's on his property, he may be able to get away with it. I would not like it, and I'd contact police and possibly an attorney as soon as possible. I agree with the person who suggested you call the police. I am not sure if it is illegal, but in some sense it is trespassing, although not physically, that's what i would consider it to be. You and everyone else would certainly call the police if someone was constantly looking through your window. It's the same to me. It's inappropriate for this person to do this to you. It's harrasment as well. Better safe than sorry, and it's the job of our law enforcement to make sure that we are safe. You may even want to call a lawyer first and find out about the legal aspect of the situation. Here's to privacy! |

I think it is legal because it is the outside of your house. The issue of if it is legal or not may vary by state. You should go over to your neighbor's place and nicely discuss why the camera is pointing at your house. There is this eccentric old man in my dad's neighborhood who points a video camera across the street to catch speeders (he times how long it takes them to go from one point to another, calculates the speed, then sends it to the cops who can't do anything more than send a letter to the people). Anyway, it may be something like that. |
