Is it okay for white people to use the term n*gga? Why do they do it?

(Just asking a question.) I have heard so many white people use it when they are talking to each other. Why or wht not?

I am white and I would never use that word. Among our friends, I can't think of anyone who uses that word so please do not classify all whites in the same category, okay? Oh to answer your question. NO, it is not OKAY!

I think some whites use the term because they hear blacks using it among themselves. They associate it with the "pimps and ho's" street culture and think it's cool. By continuing to use the word, blacks are shooting themselves in the foot: you can't get respect if you don't respect yourselves.

no one should use that word it is offensive it was used to describe others trying to put them down.

It's OK because black people say it all the time,and they also say hon*y all the time.Actually I don't think whites or blacks should say either word.

No it is not ok, I hate that word. It is never used in anything other than a derogatory way. Why some people still say it anyway? Ignorance and a poor upbringing in my opinion.

I am not from the USA but would still never dream of using a word like that.

However, having watched Chris Rock on dvd I am still confused over the racial politics concerning just who CAN say it and it be considered ok.

Is it something that African Americans can say to describe themselves and not white Americans?

And for that matter, is it rude for white people to say someone is "black?" Is African American considered more polite??

Any term that is derogatory should not be used by anyone. If and when everyone can laugh about it, the word will no longer be derogatory... I know how much of a bad name PC has got and that my view falls in the whole politically correct category, but let me explain. Society tends to move very slowly, because for the most part, people are not extremely strong minded. We are individual creatures of habit and comfort and we don't have a shared mind of brilliance that is capable of changing the accepted thought processes of yesterday. When there is a connotation that is connected to such egregious times and acts, and the circumstances have changed, but the feelings have not subsided, the air needs to be cleared of all things that hinder the needed changeвЂ¦One example I would like to refer to is one of someone that was institutionalized for a long period of time. This person had always had to ask or wait for doors to open for them when in prison. Once the person paid his debt to society and was set free, the habit of waiting in front of a door remained so strong that, even though they were obviously free to come and go as they please, they hesitated in front of any closed door they came to having to convince themselves that it was okay to proceedвЂ¦The word which you refer to is like the proverbial closed door. The word signifies inequality and brings on feelings of not having full control of oneвЂ™s destiny. Most people, when caught in this train of though get stuck at the вЂњclosed doorвЂќ and it keeps them from going through themвЂ¦So, if we all have respect for each other and society, we should unconsciously refrain from saying such thingsвЂ¦Now, we all know how weak minded and so willing-to-follow most people are, that that is just not going to happen all at onceвЂ¦It is part of the catch 22 that keeps certain people apart, certain people together, some friends, some enemies, and so forth. That is the catch 22 of living in a society. Society is what makes the human race great and so weak at the same time. For now, I guess that we should all make conscious deliberate moves in order to speed the forward movement of the Human race as a whole. And because today, we live in a very small, big world with a lot of complex individual/group needs, it will be ever so important to make these efforts. If we as individuals of this small world do not keep an open mind, praising/respecting individuality, while keeping on the conscious path of moving the world society forward together, it will end up being the end of us allвЂ¦

I wouldn't do it. It's not a necessary word and it might be misconstrued.

This is like people using the word fa**ot in reference to firewood. This is grammatically correct but the word is so charged with negative connotations... can't we just say firewood?!? The same situation exists with the word *********. Just say frugal or thrifty or something that is not so racially charged! Get a thesaurus!

I don't think anyone one should use that word. White people use it because hip hop is the most popular form of music in this country. I hate hiphop, and that word!!!

I wouldn't reccomennd it. but they use the word because they hear it on the radio and think that it is alright to say it. The only condidtion that I allowed the word to be use is when the "white" person isn't really"white". Pall Wall for example is a white man but he was raised in the hood, therefore his closest friends became black people. SO he blended into this community and became a part of them. Other than his skin tone there is nothing about him that is white. Another example is Lenny Kravitz. He is a black man but he acts more like a white man because of the way that he way raised.

is it okay for any people to use that term? i say no. whether it's used as a racial slur, or term of endearment matters not. it is a term that has taken criticism for so many decades, because of slavery and opression. then to have it used basically as if to say friend or amigo is really just beyond me. however if you would like to be a bit more educated on the subject, look up "*****" in a spanish/english dictionary.

I don't hear the word very often. Maybe it's just some racist people in your area. Or, my little middle-of-nowhere ocean town hasn't caught on...Anyway, they're probably just racist, ignorant, or insensitive.

Why not? Blacks use it in their songs and call each other the N word all day. Blacks like making a big deal out of it when white people use the word, when Blacks call us all sorts of names. What is right is right, I use the word lots, freedom of speech.

I think it's an extremely rude and horrible thing someone can say. It is in no way appropriate.

It is an unacceptable term. From any race. If an African- American and a caucasian would prick their finger and both dropped their blood into a styrofoam cup. Could you tell whose was whose? NO! Too much hate in this world and its not for me!

I dont know if its right or wrong, I mostly hear black people saying it more than white people, what i dont get is why black people call each other Ngga all the time, but if I white person says it OMG, theres a problem, when the word originally is not even realted to a racial connutaion. so whats the big deal.??? Say it or dont.
