Is it okay to talk-back to your boss?
I don't mean meanly but at least what I feel as "constructive". I came here 3 months ago, had one day of training by a guy who didn't seem to interested in training. For the most part I've pieced everything together and keep it going, the only time an error occurs is on something did by that predecessor a year or more ago. The boss, who I rarely see, came down to my end of the office one day to ***** me out because some higher than her yelled at her because of an agreement I couldn't find. I have not been completely told where these agreements are and secondly, it was from 05' when I wasn't here-so how should I know? She said the following "you would normally be fired for this type of thing" and then "you're incompetent" and then, the weirdest I felt "it's like you like that this happens" WTF? It was one thing that went wrong since I've been here and I'm always shocked and don't know what to say back so I just keep my mouth shut and say "let me now what I can do".

Having both been a boss and the bossed, I'd say this: It always depends on the situation; this situation seems pretty strange, and I think it's a challenge to deal with it constructively. As a rule: Try to find a way to adopt a positive tone whenever a disagreement comes up; try to stay away from a strident and argumentative tone. Most times, if you can impress on your "boss" that you're honestly interested in learning how things work, how to make your workplace run more smoothly or make your product or business better, they'll respond positively, too. All that having been said, it's very hard to be positive some times when someone approaches you so negatively. When that happens, you have to find a way not to take it personally -- or find another job.

The best thing is to take it all in, and don't respond when she is on one of her rants. But you are entitled to address her with your concerns. Write them down and give her a copy and keep a copy. Document everything you ever do regarding employee relations at work.
Go to her office and ask for a couple minutes and plead your case. If you get no satisfaction, you're pretty much screwed.
You can try going to her boss, but jumping the chain of command is usually frowned upon by management types.
Is there an HR or personnel department? If so go there with your concerns.

Good luck

My advice would be NOT to talk back to the boss...but to first schedule a meeting with her when things are calm. You can explain how you feel during a time she may actually listen. If that doesn't work, I'd go over her head. You don't have to be called names or stand there being threatened for something you weren't there to do.

Start a list of questions (not complaints) that you need answered then schedule a meeting with your boss and during the meeting tell her that you wanted to get a clear understanding of your job & its responsibilities. In order for that to happen you need to have a few questions answered that were not covered in your training. Make sure you let her know that you are asking because you want to be sure you are doing your job well & don't want the company to look bad because of you.

It is absolutely necessary to respond appropriately.

Making an appointment to meet with this boss asking the right questions, making the relevant comments, discussing the necessary issues, and documenting the whole experience allows you to demonstrate your professionalism.

Even if this boss isn't receptive, you've impressed your poise not only to her, but to the benefit of your own self-confidence, which is important to project for future bosses in better companies.

I would definitely address this, but I think you were right not to say anything at the moment because you were probably mad and might have said something you would regret.

Try to talk to your boss and be respectful but tell her your concerns. But if she's that disrespectful to you again, I'd look for a different job.

I think you did the right thing. It sounds like your boss was having a moment where she felt stressed and helpless and vented on you. Hopefully, knows this and will apologize. You end up looking like the mature one when you stay calm in a situation like that.

Definitely, make an appointment to talk to her about your performance and her accusations. Maybe you could get some help with things that you were never informed of concerning your job, and it will also give you an opportunity to calmly complain about her treatment of you.

This depends on your boss. If you have a boss like mine, you are welcome to offer suggestions. As I read through your details, it sounds like you have a boss that only is interested in results, and doesn't understand limitations of abilities. I would try to explain that you were not here when the offending agreement took place. If that doesn't work talk to his or her boss.

i am the boss and so if somebody talks back to me i talk back i dont mind if they talk back, but i always win so it doesnt matter

A classic example of "sh<it rolling downhill". I think her boss sets the example for his lackeys to follow. So in a way she got her share already. Might be time to find a job where there's a "no a<sshole" zone, lol. Good Luck.

yes you have rights just like everyone else, it doesnt matter that hes bigger

I would schedule a meeting with her. You might be surprised to find out that someone has been blaming you for things you didn't do.... or you haven't been told when you have done something wrong. Either way I would want to know.
