Depends on your state. Call the Gas company that services your area. Whoever you pay for your heating. You do NOT have to be over a certain age in either state that I've lived in. |

The word "pensioners" sounds like a UK term. In the US, low-income households can get heating assistance. Your gas and/or electric company can help. Many states, especially in eastern US, have "Community Action Agencies" that can also help. In Illinois and Kentucky, for example, low-income households can get help with heating bills AND with improvements to their homes to increase heating efficiency (known as "weatherization" in the US). |

The UK has a wealth of benefits and deep pockets for anyone, and has an open door policy to all.
Try looking up your local council, and enquire into benefit payments. I suspect the heating thing only applies to pensioners, but you never know. |

There are places in your town that help you with alot of things weither you know it or not. There are places you can get money for food, heat, diapers, ice, even a place to live. You just have to be willing to get out and look for the help because they wont come find you. |

If you are in the US--call your local Department of Human Services. |

Yor best bet would be to call your electric company and ask if they have a program and if you can apply for it. I know many do have programs in place. If your electric company is no help (but they should be), go onto your city's website and look around there. I know that where I live they are asking us to donate with our utility bill to help families in need. |
