Is my bank Discriminating me?
my bank lloyds tsb says i can't get a solo card because i don't work ( i get income support and dla) but i have a fair bit of money going in the bank and i don't like having to carry alot of money around with me i.e for when i go shopping and in this day and age u never know if ur gonna get robbed so wouldn't it be better for me to have a solo card as u can't get overdrawn on it, i tried to tell my bank but they said i need to be working but dla class as working??????

It's not discrimination, they have the right to administer their accounts as they see fit. However, after having been a Lloyds TSB employee for 2 years I can say they are staffed by hopeless incompitents, lazy teenagers and frustrated 50 year old women who hate everyone. This leads to an in-house culture of apathy, hatred and sorrow. This, of course, leads to bad lending decisions and bad choices made all round. In the same breath that my particular wing of Lloyds announced that we were the only profit making wing (Scottish Widows Bank), they also highlighted to us why they couldn't give any of us a raise (although the non profit making wings all got good healthy raises, and you can bet your boots the MD & GMD all got raises)

Try a good bank (The Royal Bank of Scotland are pretty good), although the problem is, most people have a horror story about each bank that is on the market.

in the end you´re discriminated by neediness, and the bank responds on this. so try to diminish your neediness at first.

I don't know if they are discriminating you, but it doesn't sound like a good bank. Maybe you should consider switching.

No offence, but if you have a fair bit of money then y r u on income support etc??

And just transfer your money to another bank that will let you!!

Or maybe get a job so you can get a solo card??

Gloomyguy
Yeah, it's discrimination. It's everywhere. Get a lawyer.

just change your bank say nationwide give them your money instead and get a card

Pink Laydee
well, this is how niave i am .... i thought all current accounts gave you a debit card. I think maybe you should look into the account type you have. Perhaps it is time to open an account else where

Each bank has its own business norms for issuing cards.Normally proof of income is only required,if you donot work. Please check with the bank proof of income (like tax return) is sufficient. If the bank still insists switch over to some other bank. There is a lot of compettion among banks now a days. Please try some other bank.

My kids are 14 and 16 they have had debit cards with Barclays and the Halifax for a few years now, both with debit cards.

Franco
If you have such plentiful supply of money, how come you are on income support?

G!
While I stand on the same side as the ones who say "get a job";

Your question reminded me of an article I read in the Business section of the Herald (Scottish Broadsheet).

63% are not happy with the service from their bank
38% have acctually complained on an aspect of the service that they were not happy about
9% were willing to switch bank if they were unhappy with the service.

A lot of people wrongly believe that switching is a difficult thing, but ALL banks must make it easy for a customer who wants to move. The BBA (British Banks Association) demand that banks do not hinder the proccess in order to let a customer move.

Join the 9% who do the smart thing and move.
