Ask the people that are calling you how they got your #. If they say your boss then talk to him about it. |

If you are very bothered by it, you might want to let him know that you do not have enough minutes to allow for all these calls. Also, having them call you after work, might not give you the time to arrange to cover for someon's shift.
On his side, many people do not realize that some have limited air time on their calling plan. Some take textinga nd minutes for granted.
Just tell him that you are very close to going over your calling plan and cannot have work calls taking up your time.
**Unless of course the company wants to compensate you for it! |

all employee's are required to have contact numbers and anything they list on their application as far as phone numbers is fair game. |

No, not without permission. It is your co workers responsiblity to get these things and no one in the office can give it out |

I DON'T believe that your boss IS allowed to give YOUR # out to all the other co-workers. That's not professional. He's the boss. It's up to him to make contact with you, not give out yr # so you can haggle with the co-workers. If anything he can make a conference call with you and someone else. HE'S supposed to SUPERVISE the staff. If you were expected to give a contact # regarding work purposes, he should have indicated that. Nowadays a person's cell phone ususally is their private phone so it is really an option on whether that # gets distributed to others. In order to not offend him, you need to think of how to present the issue (not confrontational even though it pisses you off). You shouldn't be in trouble for defending your position, but you ought to find out the company policy. |

it sucks, but i think so |

Yes, he is certainly allowed to do it. If they want you on call all the time they should really get you a company cell phone. He has the right to give out the number just as you have the right to leave if you want. |

If its your personal phone and you don't have it listed on your application as a contact number then no, he's crossing a boundary and you could politely tell him that your phone is only for personal use, that you get charged..etc. |

I think it depends on the company... |

When you gave your boss your cell number, you authorized him/her to use it for work purposes. Unfortunatlely, that includes allowing other members of the staff to call you, so long as they only call you for business. It was rude of yoru boss to be so indescriminate in handing out your number, but unless your coworkers are calling for non business things, its perfectly legal. |

Well it depends if you want to be private then just tell him that you don't think it's a good idea for him to share you privacy. Or if that's to hard and you might think you get fired just try to get any other cell phone for work or tell him you can give out you phone number but call from ex. 6 - 9pm it's hard to say no to your boss good like. |

This is a very interesting question as it also involves the "mood" of your boss. However, it is your personal information that your boss have absolutely no right to give it to other people without your permission. Also, if your company has a complaint program in place then it would be the best option or consider a hotline for reporting problems if that's also in place. On the other hand, it is okay to be direct sometimes but of course in a very nice manner. I hope that answers your question. Good luck! |

In many businesses, you have a handbook with employee policies, or at least a central location where you can go to read and familiarize yourself with company policy. By working there, you often agree to abide by policies that are not otherwise in violation of Federal or State employment law.
If your business has a policy of allowing employee phone numbers to be shared with other employees for the convenience of the business, that may be the way it is there. I know of no Federal or State law that would bar the practice. |

I think he can do that. It makes sense if people are actually calling you for business-related purposes, as it looks like it served its purpose. You can always ignore those numbers (or ones you don't recognize) :-P |

When you were hired, was there an expectation that you be available after work hours or in case of emergency? You should probably clarify that your phone number is your personal number and that you have a private number (unlisted number) for personal reasons. You don't have to answer why. If there is an expectation you be available for work calls when not at work, maybe you can offer to carry a separate phone that they pay for. Good luck |
