I have a buddy we call Pip. We also call him the Pipster and the Pippinattor.
I hope that helps. |

It's appropriate. For example, one of the characters in Dickens' "Great Expectations" was called Pip, short for Phillip. However, it's always a good idea to ask a person what he/she wants to be called. |

Is his full name phillip or just Phil? Well, either way any nickname can be an acceptable name for someone if it suits them and its not offensive |

Heck Doofus is an acceptable nickname for someone called Phil if he likes it. I think you're asking for a common nickname. I know at least one guy named Philip who has gone by Pip. |

"Pip" would work for anyone. Some nicknames don't have any connection to the person's real name, so as long as Phil likes it, it works. |
