Is stealing from Best Buy okay?
Well, I have a little bit of a problem: I purchased a 65in DLP, audio system, blu-ray player, and hd-dvd player on wednesday. I told them that I would need to come back and pick everything up later in the week. I needed to borrow a cube van from my neighbor to get my order home. I did not live close enough for the cheap delivery and did not want to pay more than it would cost me to get to the store. I then exchanged everything that was not the television. I had everything I bought set for pickup and after exchange took everything home.
Then I went today to pick up my television. I went to the department and they called my television up. I pulled up my van and they loaded my television up.
I was not paying attention to them. I noticed that there was other stuff near the door, but it did not concern me. The television fit inside of the van and I waited for them to load everything. I get home and they put the entire order in my van. The television and all the items I have exchanged.
Do you think that they will come pick this stuff up without charging me? This was not my mistake. I specifically said I was there to pick up my television. I should have paid more attention to what was going on, but I saw the tv was correct and thought that was everything. I figured they would know enough what I was supposed to get. Now I have extra stuff that I need to return, but the nearest Best Buy is about 90 miles away. I do not feel like paying for more gas to return this stuff. The van I used got 8 miles per gallon. I am afraid that if I call they will tell me to bring everything back. I do not want to pay $100 for fuel and a case of beer (for allowing me to use the van) because of their mistake. That would take a nice bite out of my savings. I do not want them to charge me and force me to return or resell. I just want rid of this stuff.
I might look for some traveling through the area going near manhattan (ks, not ny) that could return the stuff for me.

Yes they'll come pick it up if you call them.
You knew what was happening after they loaded the tv and then kept loading more stuff. (you can pay attention to mileage and how much gas costs, but you didn't notice them loading an audio system, blu ray player and an hd dvd player as well ... puh leez!)
You became the thief when you drove off with it all.
So, now you're just trying to justify being a thief (and a cheap one at that!) Call them, tell them you got stuff that wasn't part of your order, and have them come pick it up. (that takes care of your 'excuses' about the mileage and van) They won't file charges if they get the stuff back.
Unless you don't care that the guy who helped you load the tv and all the other stuff into your van will get fired.
If you want to be a total creep, do nothing, and hope they don't figure it out and come get you. (and they will, because everything is on the computer now) I bet you didn't pay cash for all that stuff, so they have all your information. It won't take long to find you. Call them, tell them to come get the extra stuff.

tracy
Call them! Tell them what has happened and tell them you are unable to return the things yourself. They will send someone to pick the stuff up-guaranteed. It is stealing to keep the stuff, it is illegal to keep the stuff, and sooner or later, someone is going to figure out where those things went and your little *** will be sitting in jail. Someone will be held accountable for the missing merchandise and the person who gets the blame at the store will wrack his brains until he finally remembers you. Call them- it's not worth the thousands of dollars you are going to end up paying and the police record you will have because you didn't make one call to have them pick up their merchandise.

If you have any second thoughts i think you know the answer. I strongly believe in what comes around goes around. If you do good things good things come back to you. You sound like a good guy so i think you will do the right thing

You could just consider it a gift from the universe for your good karma... or you could call them back, ask them to come pick it up, and save your karmic lottery ticket for a potentially better prize.

Mistaken delivery does not give you title to the items.

You need to advise Best Buy of the error, and give them an opportunity to come and get them.

A Landers
Call them and explain. I am sure they will be glad to accommodate you.

Be sure to get a signed receipt that they picked the stuff up and the names of the people that come to get it.

knapa
call them and if they want it back tell them to come pick it up

I would call them and let them know THEY made a mistake and that if they want the stuff back THEY have to come and get it. Make sure you write down the date and time of your call and the name of the person you talk to.

Owlwings
If it was their mistake (as it seems to have been), then you should call them immediately and advise them to pick up the goods within 30 days. Follow this up with a letter. If they do not, then it is not stealing, since the mistake was theirs and you have given them a chance to reappropriate their property within a reasonable period. It's not stealing if you do this but it is theft if you don't.

You could, if you choose, make a quick call to a lawyer for advice. I think they will tell you the same thing (the time allowed may vary, depending on your country.)

gallaxynurse
tell them to come get it. shouldn't be a problem since it was their mistake. but maybe report it to Best Buy nationally instead of locally. should be easier for one of the 'big bosses' to tell the local boss that it is their mistake and their problem to pick it up. good luck.

jtk15sc
if i were you i would call the store and let them know so you don't get them into any hot water

A bit complicated, but everyone concerned should do the right thing. Nothing is free. Mistakes can be viewed as theft if not addressed. Thin ice ahead.

It was not your mistake. I would ASSUME they would come pick it up at no charge to you (because they are losing a lot more money by not being able to sell the items you have). Try calling them and not giving them any specific information about yourself and asking them this question 'hypothetically'. See what their response is. Maybe they will have a truck in the area delivering to someone else that can swing by and just pick it up.

It is nice to see such honesty.
Good luck. =)

It's not just their mistake. You knew they were loading things that were not supposed to be loaded but you kept your mouth shut and did not point it out to them at the time. Now if they figure it out later it's not their fault if you have to eat the extra expense of gas and beer to return what you knew you should not have taken in the first place. Now this guilt will haunt you for the rest of your life. It will haunt you for the rest of your life...

Another way of looking at it is this: If Best Buy is so cheap to hire unqualified labor that does not know what it is doing then they deserve the loss. Let them hire people who speak English and pay a decent wage and they might not have problems like this. It's their own fault they ripped themselves off.

Seems like its not your mistake. As long as it was done accidentally then it's not really your fault. But you should call them and tell them the situation and have them pick it up. I am sure they won't charge you. Even if they attempted to charge you, you can just get mad at them and raise your voice and they will forget the charge. It works everytime. Hey, it wasn't your fault after all, let them deal with it. It will be okay, just call them to pick it up. It wouldn't be right if you did not return the stuff.

thats not stealing its their mistake and im pretty sure they cant charge you for THEIR mistake. stealing is not right but you did not steal its their fault if you clearly stated that all you where picking up was your tv.

Under no circumstances is stealing wrong. Keep it in the package for two weeks max, after that they won't check.
