It's a really common thing to be scared of. It's called Arachniphobia (fear of arachnids). I'm 27 years old, 6' tall and 220lb... and will scream like a little girl and run away if I see a spider. |

Arachnophobia: An abnormal and persistent fear of spiders. Sufferers from arachnophobia experience undue anxiety even though they realize the risk of encountering a spider and being harmed by it is small or nonexistent. They may avoid going barefoot and may be especially alert when taking showers or getting into and out of bed. This phobia was exploited in a 1990 movie called Arachnophobia.
"Arachnophobia" is derived from the Greek "arachne" (spider) and "phobos" (fear). The Greek word was derived from the name "Arachne," a maiden in Greek mythology whom the goddess Athena turned into a spider after the girl, a skilled weaver, challenged Athena to a weaving contest.
You can overcome these fears with counselling. A counsellor might ask you imagine a spider in the room next door then later ask you imagine it in the same room and then finally (weeks, months even years later, depending on the rate of progress) the counsellor introduces the patient to a real spider. Sometimes the patient is encouraged to touch it.
There are a number of Arachnophobia courses available, these are usually run by, or in conjunction with a zoo. The most famous one is the 'Friendly Spider Program' run by London Zoo in the UK, which has helped hundreds of people overcome their fear of spiders. |

no.....there is not a problem...most of the spiders in the us are not poisonus. the only ones you have to fear are brown recluses and black widows. brown recluses are usually found in your attic....or storage shed...they enjoy darkness and usually do not last that long. black widows are usually found in evergreens and are harmless unless you provoke them. |
