I would put a paperbag on top of it and use an iron to heat it through the bag. Should make the adhesive let go.

Yes, two way's that I know. Breath on it, you know like when you clean your glasses. Do that breathing a little bit, then peel, repeat this until your stamp is free.
Or, run hot water in the sink and bring the envelope over to the faucet. While the steam is rising from the hot water, slowly peel off the stamp, slowly now so it doesn't rip. Take your time, it works. :) No big deal.
Or cut it out and paste on another envelope. Cause you know you can't put scotch tape over them and mail anything. Post Office's do not accept that.

In India, it is illegal to reuse any uncanceled stamp The postal department have experts to examine randomly stamps affixed on packets and parcels. Those found guilty are heavily fined or dragged to Court of Law.

Use a hair dryer. Hold the stamp and backing with tweezers so you don't burn your fingers. Then gently pull the stamp off as you hold it in the hot air.
