I get about 5 of these a day! Supposedly from Barclays, Abbey, Lloyds - you name it they are asking for my details! Well, I am not that stupid - I don't even have an account with them! I just delete without even opening the mail. Not to mention the ones from Africa or who knows where saying I've come into a large inheritance!!

How many people get these? Thousands upon thousands! I've received phishing e-mails asking for "account verification" supposedly from eBay, Paypal, Chase Manhatten, U.S. Bank, etc. etc. The best thing to do with these e-mails is to forward them to the REAL fraud departments by going to their websites and looking for something that says "report phishing attempts" or something to that effect, and be sure to Cc "spam@uce.gov"

i get them from PayPal and other banks, I think NatWest once... But i frequently get PayPal Spam emails. I also get emails in my spam folder saying "V1AGRA" which luckily the spam filter picks up!

heard these were on the go. Apparently people are also pretending to be part of ebay and asking for account details. Never give them out.

Kari
I get them from people pretending to be aol, ebay and paypal. The thing that I was told was never to reply to anything that asks for personal information of starts off 'dear customer...' (ie, doesn't address you personally)

TaxGirl
i always get phony paypal and every now and then washington mutual. i forwarded the msgs 2 the 'real' paypal and WaMu. both sent me a notice saying they were aware of it and looking n2 it. keep spreadin' the word. christmas shopping season is in full swing...there'll be a lot more scams/phishing poppin up.
