Assuming you are a non-union, non-contract employee---
Standard practice is use it or lose it, unless it states otherwise in your employee handbook (you do have one of those, don't you?), or your company uses a cafeteria-style benefits program.
Cafeteria-style programs often have a formula that determines what can rollover, how, and when. |

You'll have to bug HR with one last question... :) |

I worked at Transamerica for 10 years. If you didn't take your sick time, you didn't get paid for it. Makes for a moral dilemma don't you think? |

It depends on the employer, we do where I work. |

Each employer is different. Some employers say "use it or lose it" (which is illegal in most states), some let you carry it over to the next year, others will cash it out. |

it all depends on what company you work for |

Some do and some don't. Some states have regulations requiring that some sort of compensation is given, but in most states it's "use it or lose it". |

It depends where you work...at my company, you can keep accumulating it until a point in time and then if you don't use it, you lose it. Employers aren't required to provide sick time. |

Check with your HR department. Some companies will pay cash but some you just lose the time at the end of the year. |

There are no laws in any state that I am aware of that requires an employer for unused "Sick" time. This is the reason that this time is usually separated from other times such as Vacation/Comp/Personal Days.
You need to look at your companies policy. Some give you a certain amount of days per year, but then will just let unused datys roll over to the next year. Other employers may just start over. |

I worked for Walmart for 11 years and the way it worked was if you reached I believe it was 192 hours of sick time then it rolled over into personal hours but they never payed us for sick time. The only think we got paid for was if we didnt use all our vacation hours by the time we hit our next anniversry date. No sick time but im not sure how other companies work. But as far as I know they usually dont pay you for sick time at the end of every year |

All companies have different policies, so you would have to check to see what your company's policy is - an employee benefits manual, or ask your supervisor if you don't want to bother HR again. |

Some do. Some don't. Check with your HR Dept. |

Sometimes sick time rolls over but if it doesn't, you typically don't get paid for it unless you quit and then you can get paid for what you've accrued and not used (sometimes). |
