The lion would win. The lion and the tiger are almost evenly matched in cunning, hunting skills and speed, however, the lion has the advantage of more muscle strength and thereby more stamina. As the fight will get stretched, the scales will tip in favor of the lion. This is the basic rule of one-to-one combat - that the longer the battle extends, the factor of physical strength becomes more and more decisive. So clearly, here, lion has the advantage.
In one of the programs on Discovery, a similar research was carried out in which the strengths and weakness of both these predators were matched. They made out models of them and calculated the force applied and all other factors in various consitions. The lion came on tops. |

The discovery channel (I think it was) did this on its show. They took all the information on each animal, and tested the information given. The computer generated response was in favor to the lion. I tend to disagree, because in a one on one match, the lion is out of its element. A bengal Tiger is generally alot larger and stronger than a lion, its force of it's bite is also greater. The only thing a male lion has going for him is the mane, making it harder for the tiger to get a grip on the larynx of the lion to crush it.
The tiger is also a solitary hunter. It relies on itself for everything. The lion, however, is a pride related animal. All lions except for the head male rely on the pride, or pack, to hunt and survive.
It's really a tough call statisically, but overall, the tiger has the upperhand over the lion. |

Individually the tiger has a weight advantage.
Male tigers weigh up to 715 lbs.
Male Lions weigh up to 550 lbs.
Imagine a 178lb man (Tiger) against a 137lb man (Lion). I think the weight advantage would be the biggest factor.
But, Tigers are solitary and Lions live in packs. If a lion pack took on a solitary tiger, the Lions would prevail on the field of battle that day.
In any event, a Liger (male lion x female tiger) would take them both due to its larger size (up to 1000 lbs). Furthermore the Liger is bred for its skill in magic.
Any of the above fights would be very bloody and brutal. Let's hope they can all just get along. |
