Im trying to move out of my parents house and into an apt with my fiance. Im trying to get all finances figured out so i can budget my money right so i dont get into debt and to know how much my bf and i will be spending a month. Can any give me a rough estimate on how much they spend on health insurance, car insurance, electricity, water, cable/internet, and other payments of things im not thinking of. Also where the best place to buy things to furnish the apt. I would really appreciate it. I just dont want to be barely making it or get into debt so early in life. |

When I rented I paid:
Rent: $460
Health Insurance: $120 (mom helped, was in school)
Car insurance: $80
Electric: $60-90
Water: Included w/ rent
Cable: Didn't bother
Internet: $30 (mom paid)
You will have food and gas expenses. That normally ran between $200-250/mo.
I got my furniture from mom's house and I bought some at places like Target and Wal-Mart.
Anyways, as you see I owe a lot to my wonderful mom. If I could do it all over again I would have moved back home though because of some unfortunate circumstances.
Anyways, good luck and I wish you the best. Looks like you are on the fast track to success. Keep that good head on your shoulders and pass it on to your fiance. |

You are very smart to not want to get into debt, and to realize that. Start off small, bare necessities. For furniture, kitchen tools, lamps etc....salvation army, or thrift stores often have GREAT deals. If you have an IKEA near you, they have excellent deals on there dishes, silverware, spatula's, etc all the time. Or if there are garage sales going on, check that out. Wait for the nice, new, fancy furniture until you can afford it. Health insurance is extremely expensive. Is it possible for you to look for a job that has benefits? Car insurance will vary depending on where you live, if you have a loan on your care, etc. More often than not (where I'm from anyways) water is included in the rent. My electricity for a 2 br, 2 ba condo is roughly $75-80/mo. Try to stay away from places where you would have to pay a gas bill....as that's pretty expensive. As for cable/internet/phone....look at the companies your area for "bundle" packages. Mine is cable, cable internet, and we have 2 phone lines..for $110/mo. Hope this helps! |

go to kmart or walmart etc for kitchen and bath
if you need furniture that is very costly for new
go to gargae sales ask friends / parents etc.
look online and in the paper for used furniture.

It really depends on what part of the country you are living in and if it is a big city or small town, but here are some rough estimates:
Health insurance for the two of you - $200/month (ask your employers)
Car insurance for the two of you - $150-200/month (shop around for this!)
Electricity - $60/month (more in the summer for air conditioning) - some landlords include this in the rent.
Water - $20/month (if you are renting you should not be responsible for the water bill, the landlord almost always covers this one)
Cable & internet - $100/month
You didn't include gas - $120/month (assuming you live in a part of the country that is cold in the winter and that it isn't already included in your rent), renters insurance - $10/month, home phone or cell phone - you probably already know how much your cell phone costs you, and of course rent, but you probably already have an idea what that will cost in your neighborhood.
Also don't forget things like gasoline, entertainment and groceries (I would figure groceries would be $300 or so per month for the two of you).

It really depends on where you live as location does play a big factor.
But here is some rough estimates.
Typical 1 bedroom regular neighborhood = $400 per mo.
Average electric bill for 1 bedroom per mo.= $50
Average heating bill (minimal usage ) =$45
Basic cable per mo. =$40
Health insurance standard individual per mo.=$140
Basic liability auto ins. per mo. =$40
Standard grocery bill for 1 per mo. = $175
Gas for automobile per mo. avg. =$100
Cell phone per mo. avg =$40
If this is your first move (sounds like it is) you may be required to include deposits / security.
OTHER WISE YOUR MONTHLY TOTALS WILL BE AROUND: =$990.00 PER MO.

well you need to think of the basic needs of living on your own.
1 ; rent or mortgage
2 ; electric and gas
3 ; food
4 ; water ( you only need to pay for cold water if you are owning your own home, renting a apt or home is usually free )

i said luxury because it is not needed in order to survive
1. cable
2. internet
3. house phone
4. cell phone
5. car payment
6, car insurance
now as far as prices rents and mortgages are really hard to give an estimate because i do not know where you are from or the area but let's say from 500-2000
electric bill would be based on how many things you will have running in your house..how big your house is and if your heat is on electric gas or oil. and also if you plan to have an air conditioner in the summer time that sky rockets your bill let's say about 50-75 a month
as far as hot water & heating goes you have to look into the apt or house that you are getting and see if it is gas ; oil or electric all houses and apts are different. mine is gas and gas prices are insane and my gas bill a month from nov-march is about 300 - 400 a month.
food ; lol varies on how much you eat and what you eat say about 150-200 a month
as far as the luxury's
some cable company's have a 3 package deal with cable internet and house phone all together for about 100-150 a month.
cellphone varies on your plan and provider
car payment if your leasing varies
and so does your insurance
it's harder than it seems and it's not easy nor inexpensive i moved out my mothers house when i was 18 and had a child..i'm 20 now and of course doing alot better but it takes some time to get used to and just make sure you have a good & stable job and don't spend more than your can afford or else you'll be in debt before you know it..
places you can get things for your apt..check out some local tag sales..discount warehouses..ask some friends if they have some extra stuff..www.craigslist.com in your local area
or you can go to walmart they have some nice tables, lamps, chairs and they offer mattress and couches online for a very good price.

well, most appartment places offer a few things like water, electric and/or trash, but that you have to look into before signing and not only that you need to find a good place to live if you plan on living there for a while... if you already have a cell phone you don't really need a land line or telephone.. cable, internet and telephone can be handled if you call the company for an estimate... |
