The key to your answer lies in the last sentence of your explanation of your question. It sounds like this is part of your mission statement: "...to be affordable to people even with little money." That being one of your goals, you will need to offer generics. A successful model would be Aldi's grocery chain, in business since 1947.. Almost everything is generic there and people who have limited money shop there repeatedly. The real key to repeat sales of generic brands is quality control. Generics will sell repeatedly if the consumer sees the quality of your generic brands being roughly the same as big brand names. The reasons big brands cost more is all about advertising, promotion and consistent quality. Some generics save the consumer money by passing on the savings of advertising and promotion. Others also lessen the quality to capture more initial sales with lower prices, but it is the repeat sales that will keep you in business for a long time. Sell the best quality generics. Personally I would go for generic. It is basically the exact same thing as name brand. |

I almost always buy store brand food. The only items I don't are mayo (I only use miracle whip), butter (Country Crock), Peanut Butter, Mac n Cheese, and toilet paper. They might be a couple others, but for the most we buy Spartan brand. Wealways try it first and for the most it tastes the same, or better, than high priced brands. |

Most generic brands or store brands are the same as the higher priced brands. |

almost always generic (your just paying for the name!) same items are an execption to the rule, but most of the time if you compair you'll see no difference other then the $$.....This works for almost anything not just food! |

I think it depends on the food product. I'm sure everyone knows that there are some products that are worth more because they are better, but I don't think anyone wants to pay twice as much for a smaller box of cereal, so when it comes down to it, I think people would buy generic, but you have to think of quality as well as quantity! |

IMO it all depends on the product. Some generic brands are made of exactly the same things as NB, just a little different combo (not as much salt on chips, or more sugar, etc) There are a few items that I buy name brand, because I have found the generic doesn't always do the job-diapers, most cleaning supplies, and a few food items (I gotta have the real oreos) but almost always, I comparison shop and get the generic stuff. I would do a little research yourself first. Get a few friends together and do a poll, buy the generic and NB comparable items, see which one is better, or if they are the same. Then use that to purchase for your store. Good Luck! |

name brand. people who dont have money (like me) we still like the name brand because it just makes us feel more secure about the products even though the generic is really cheap....but i have to admit i buy generic things sometimes when i dont have enough money to buy "the good stuff" |
