Need advice for staying awake?
I work the midnight shift. I am pregnant. It is getting hard for me to stay awake at night. I am a security officer, and basically, have to keep myself busy at night because not a single person comes in. Ive done the stitching, coloring, endless time on the computer, and its all getting old. Im new here, been here since Jan.1st. and am last on the totem pole, so its not like I can ask to be moved up quite yet. Any suggestions?

Develop a liking for reading maybe. Music is probably not an option in security work I imagine. If your pregnant coffee and all the caffeine isn't great for you. Are you getting enough sleep when your not working? I have a hard time sleeping during the day myself. (too much noise and I can never get my bedroom dark enough to really get some REM sleep.)
Try to make your sleep more productive, turn off the phone if it's bugging you, make it really dark in your room, Get some lavender incense to burn before sleping maybe. Really maximize your sleep is my point.
Other then that, reading, doing crosswords or word searches kill time in small ammounts. If your all alone you can stretch and try to get some blood moving to keep yourself awake. Maybe pick up a handheld poker game or whatever if thats your thing. perhaps consult a doctor on using gindsing or some other natural pick-me-upper but definatly talk to a doc. about it as I have no idea the effects of it when taken during pregnancy.
Hope the situation improves and congratulations on the baby.

I wish I could give you advice on staying up but I can't. When you're pregnant, you REALLY need to listen to your body. A primal body instinct kicks in and you should really listen to it. That's my advice...just thinking about your baby. Talk to your doctor, please.

Bring a long-winded book. 600-1000 pages to be exact...oh and some candy along with something else odd with it. You know, the wierd pregnant food choices.

Sleep as much as you can before you go to work, i mean reverse the time. Treat your day as your night (do things you would normally do at night like sleep) and then automatically the night will be your day.
And for all those people who advised you to drink 'coffee' or 'RedBull' or 'take a cigarette', missed to read that you are pregnant, in hurry to get points.

Make sure you're eating right. You need about 300 extra calories every day — and we're not talking about potato chips and candy bars. A healthy diet made up of vegetables, fruits, whole grains, skim milk, and lean meats can be energizing. Junk food, by contrast, actually saps you of vim and vigor. Snack on healthy foods like fruit and yogurt. And cut back on caffeine and make sure you're drinking plenty of water so you stay hydrated

When I am driving late at night and start to get sleepy, I listen to Metalica. If you don't like Metalica, this should work even better!

Coffee is not good when you are pregnant. I know you are taking prenatal vitamins already. Have you tried green tea for stamina? Other than that maybe taking a crossword puzzle book or another activity as such might help? :)

I need to stay awake myself for school alot of the time.
best thing before work get a good nap in and drink coffee, but not energy drinks, they bring you up in high energy then crash you.

splash watter on youre neck cold bring radio listen to talk radio coast to coast is good if you like paranormal stuff think of babby names think of what you would like as a new job write down 100 things you like about yourself it will keep you mentally active listen and try to play drums with pencils.

you could do some easy isotonic exercises right where you are at, which is good for you too since you're pregnats. don't drink too much coffee, might be harmful to the little one in you. but get up and walk around your area, do some isotonics (like take your hands place them above your head, clasp your hands together. take in a deep breath and exhale half of it out. then try and pull your hands apart, all the while increasing the effort, so at about four to six seconds you will want to be at maximum effort [you'll know this when your arms start to shake], then hold it at maximum effort for a count of six to ten depending on your level of conditioning, then exhale and release your grip and relax). You can find much more isotonic workouts to do while sitting down or standing, and they're easy too. have fun.

If you're the determined type, you could try a rubix cube. Those things take forever to do. Also, you might want to buy some high-paced music or caffeine pills. Maybe even buy a portable TV, but then that could put you too sleep too. Listening to the radio might not be a bad idea.
