People tend to say that the best thing you can do is show a teenager that you love them and are there for them by sitting down with them face to face and asking them what is wrong, what is troubling them. By doing this you are showing genuine concern for them and where they are at in their life. Don't talk to him like is a child, talk to him like he is a young man, and tell him that he can talk to you about anything and you will not get mad at him. Let him know that this time in his life might be fraught with much confusion, and he might make bad decisions sometimes but that it will be okay as everyone makes mistakes and needs help at sometime in their life. |

I have two sons.They are 20,and 14.My oldest was always involved in sports.I never really had to worry about him getting into trouble.My youngest on the other hand is a hand full sometimes.He tries to run with the wrong crowd,I have caught him in small white lies.I have always tried to be my boys friend ,but they both know I am momma ,too.I keep my youngest occupied with the internet, and school work.So far so good.Neither one drinks, smokes ,or run the streets.They also know if they step out of line they will have to suffer the concequences.My oldest is 5'11,195lbs,the other is 5'9,200lbs .I am 5'2.150lbs,and believe me they are scared of me, because they know I do not take any crap off either one of them. |

Help him see the future. Help him understand that decisions made today effect his future. Share with him your past decsions that made today what it is. Share with him what decsions you are making today and how you hope they will impact tomorrow.
Share things you wish you ahd done differently.
Find out what he wants in his future and help him to go after them.

i would just like to tell you that at this age he will think he is invinsible and you just have to tell him there is something out there that could and will hurt him if he thinks that nothing can break him not only will something hurt him it will also hurt the ones in his life....tell him to take small steps and not to think that nothing can hurt him b/c there is something out there that could hurt him |

It's hard being 14 and it gets harder. Keep making sure he's doing the right thing and reinforce his good behaviors. Don't send him away, kids need their parent's and you don't want him to grow up any faster than he already will. |
