I just had my first child with my fiance (who has 2 children from a previous marriage). We recently purchased a home together, and she has yet to go back to work. It is VERY difficult to pay our bills with the added expense of the new home and child (who is well worth it, by the way). I am a business professional with a good job, and OK income, but it's increasingly difficult to make ends meet on my single income. Is there anything out there that I can do a couple hours a night/weekend that can bring in significant and legal income? I don't have the time to get an additional "job", but rather am looking to do something from home, where I don't have to see my new son even less than I do now. :) Any suggestions would be appreciated. |

I have found that the only way to a guaranteed paycheck is a "real" job. You could try finding a way to make more money at the job you currently have, like a raise or maybe side-work (not sure how that would work, but some creative thinking on your part might prove fruitful).
Ebay and Craigslist are great suggestions to raise quick cash. If you have any crafts you create, Etsy is another great site to check out. It is basically an Ebay stores site for handcrafted items.
If you are looking for something long-term, a home based business may be a great fit. Here are some of the options available:
1. Direct sales- while not exactly a business you own, it is a great way to get involved with a company that already has a presence in the marketplace. Some options are Avon, Pampered Chef, Tastefully Simple, Discovery Toys, and Usborne. I am an Independent Consultant for Affordable Mineral Makeup TM and love it. I also have worked with Avon and my sister-in-law has good luck with Pampered Chef.
You can also check out a forum that I am a moderator for by clicking the resource box for the Smart Moms Smart Business link, it is a forum with many of these types of businesses represented and lots of ideas/help for working from home (it is Mom centered, but I don't think they would turn away a Dad who wants to help his family).
2. Blogging- This is a slow process, but one that can become very lucrative. ProBlogger.net, DoshDosh.com and CourtneyTuttle.com are GREAT resources for this option. Just be aware that this is something you build on, working for free until your traffic increases. Making it not an option for those who expect immediate results (money).
3. Service based business- You can become a virtual assistant to other businesses if your administrative skills are top-notch. Mechanical skills can net work if you have the proper tools.
4. Ebay- You can have a home-based business selling on Ebay if you reinvest some of the initial money raised into more products/supplies. Just be sure to research what is selling and what for and remember that what is hot one day may not be the next. Ebay can be fickle, but there are many that are making a nice profit selling on Ebay.
5. Your own website- Just like a "brick and mortar" store, this is a site that you build and market. You have to find products to buy wholesale and resell in your store. This can be more profitable if you are selling your own products, but then you also have to find the time to create the products.
I hope this is helpful, there are so many people looking to make extra money anymore, that the scammers will no doubt step up their game with the "get rich quick" schemes. So do your research and find out the requirements for operating a business out of your home (licensing, zoning and other legalities).

Hi,
1. I suggest that she work out of her home doing call center work. There are call centers everywhere. They don't pay alot but they provide insurance benefits.
Call centers are for making flight reservations to mobile phone troubleshooting.
2. Do what I did when I was a stay at home mom and could not let my kids go to daycare. I went to clown school. I became a professional childrens entertainer. It was fun and you make $175.00 per hour here in Houston. You can work through an agency or by yourself. We were able to take cruises and do a lot of things that we wouldn't have done without the extra money. Some weekends I would bring home 3000.00 because some companies have customer appreciation days and they pay 100.00 per hour. When you work all day, You are rich.
Call a clown out of the phone book and tell them you want to go to clown school and is there an clown alley where you live. If you didn't like that clown, go to the next one. Good luck |

Sell things on Ebay, I do it all the time, and I make plenty of extra money. Things around your house that you no longer need or want, such as clothes, collectibles, stamps, artwork, books, movies, and furniture. Often times if you buy things and discount on sell them individually on Ebay you can make a profit as well. |

Consider yourself blessed at still being able to have food on the table, as most of the world's people presently do not have adequate diets.

Considering relocating to a part of your country where the cost of living is more reasonable. I agree with alot of them here. DON'T fall for the "get rich quick" schemes. I do affiliate programs, They aren't anything with getting rich quick, and you do have to work them. Some of them offer commission for getting sales through your personal site. BUT with any job you have to work them. |

I wouldnt listen to Mathew P or anybody trying to tell you that websites like Project Payday would work. If you look at mathew's other answers they ALLL have something to do with project pay day or get rich quick money schemes.
Hes obviously somebody here trying to get people to go to it like I did. You can try it but it seems really confusing to me, and its hard to make money I hear. Its possible, but Ive mostly heard its not worth it.
I think the only real money online is probably Poker if your good at it, ebay, and surveys (very very little money but its something) |

The best solution I have found is with eHow.com. Here you write how-to articles and receive a portion of the revenue generated from ads placed with your article.
As an example, I wrote 50 articles in April which are earning me an average of $2.80 a day. Notice I said I wrote them in April and haven't spent a minute more on them since then.
You could write two or three a night until your income level reaches the amount you need.

I am always amazed at how many people get in over their heads, as if they didn't know how much their new house was going to cost.
The bottom line is, no, there is nothing you can do a few hours a week that will bring anything "significant." After taxes, you can't hope for more than $20 an hour or so, and that would be pretty good. Look for a better paying FIRST job. |
