$600.00. You would need to get another $100.00 from another source before you are able to purchase the 6 cows buying them for $800.00. Until you do, it can't be done. So it's a trick question. |
|

paradox is interesting
 |
After you sell the first 6 cows you only have 700...so unless you have a credit card how do you buy more cows for 800? Assuming you can convince someone to loan you the 100 you are short, then after selling them for 900 you have turned your 600 into 900 which is a profit of 300. Assuming you pay back the 100 you borrowed to buy the second batch of cows you will then have exactly 800 which means you have your orig 600 plus 200 bucks profit. MOOOOOO |

You have not given enough information for a completely correct answer, so as correct as can be for what is here - you end up with the last $900 you have in your hand from the last sale. You have $0 dollars net profit however! |

Start with : $600
Buy cows : - $600
Total: $ 0
Have now $ 0
Sell for : + $700
Total: $700
Have now: $700
Buy more: - $800
Total: -$100
Have now: -$100
Sell for: + $900
Total: $800
So, you have $800, but have netted $200 total. |

its impossible because how can you buy 6 new cows for 800 if you only have 700 when you sold the other cows? |

700-600=100-800=-700+900=200 |

are you sure you have the stats correct?
not only is this a riddle but it doesn't make sense...
clarify in your details please double check how you have it presented here....
if the cows were $100.00 each =$600.00
you sell them for $700.00 = $100.00 profit
anyway another way to look at it is:
6 x $600=$3,600
6 x $700.00 = $4,200
6x $800.00= $4,800.00
6x$900.00= $5,400
??????
I think you only end up with $100.00 ??? |

You had to borrow $100 to get the cows for $800.
When you sold them for $900 you had to pay off
the $100 you borrowed. You still have your $600
plus the $200 you made from selling the cows for $900.
The other solution is - you sell the cows for $700 each,
buy 6 more for $800 from the same guy you bought the
first lot from, sell those for $900 each and make a bundle.
Total profit: $8200. (not including the $600 you stated off with). |

Since you would have to borrow 700 to purchase the second set of cows you would have to pay that back off the profit I would say you are in the hole and owe $500. |

My fingers tell you have netted $300. |

600-600=0 + 700 = 700 - 800 = -100 + 900 = 800 dollars
So $800 |
