Be sure to keep taking good care of the go cart. That will show your Mom that you will take responsibility for the commitments you make, even after the fun wears off - and that's a big fear parents have about getting their kids a pet. Also, write up a sample "FOR SALE" ad to show her that you're serious, make sure it accurately describes the go cart. Tell her straight up that you will respect her decision no matter what it is at this time. But be sure to ask "When will you reconsider letting me have a pet?" And ask her to hear you out again in a month or so. Don't pester her while yoy wait that time out, but show her from time to time that your interest is still strong (by checking out library books on the breed you want, take a puppy care class online, etc. Then hit her up again when she says she'll think about down the road.

Well, what's the pet? Does she have an allergy to it, or does she just not like the pet? Or... is she like my dad and has a fear of you growing up and trying to act responsible. If that IS the case, then do more things to convince her that you are responsible. |

As a mom, I don't think you can convince her to let you sell it if your intention is to use the money to buy a pet. Every mom knows that their child's pet will eventually end up as their responsibility as the child (no matter what their age) grows up, moves away, and the pet gets left behind. Save buying the pet you want until you have a place of your own. Trust me, it is not about the money - it is about the long term responsibility of the pet. Even if you PROMISE on your very life that you will take sole responsibility of the pet - things happen. Be respectful of your mom, she loves you even when she won't let you have what you want or do what you want. |

I doubt there's anything you can say to convince her. On the bright side, in six short years you can get your own place and keep whatever pet you'd like -- heck, even a monkey. ;) |
