I'd say no. Initially it is easy to find contacts to sell products, but within a few months it becomes very difficult, and the marketers become so desperate that they start annoying everyone they know. I know of several people who have fallen into this trap. |

Amway has much to offer some people. I know good people that have been successful in quick-star which is like Amway. They teach people good skills in the real world. But i could see why some people think it's cult related, but it really isn't. Unless worshiping the all mighty dollar is considered a cult. |

$5 billion per year in product sales is "no money at all"?
I'm not involved in Amway. I do however have friends that have made literally millions in Amway over the years. At this juncture, there is too much bad press about Amway in the U.S. to get involved, in my opinion.
In any MLM company, or any company for that matter be it Amway or Quixstar (which are basically the same company, one internet based), your success has less to do with the product or company and more to do with your ability to market and sell it. You can have the best product in the world and stave to death if you can't sell it, or the worst product and get rich because you know how to sell it.
The reason so many people fail in MLMs is not the MLMs themselves. Most people, myself included, simply aren't cut out to make it in the MLM structure. While all these companies talk about how easy the "system" is, and how anyone can be successful at it and the only people that fail are ones who don't work the system, it's simply not true. The fact of the matter is, different people have different skills. While some people make friends very, very easily, in addition to being able to talk enthusiastically about anything, some like myself are noticeably cautious when making friends, and take their own recommendations serious enough to not come off sounding overenthusiatic about every "next big thing". The latter type of personality, like myself, will just never do well in an MLM business structure. While the people we talk to take our word as gold, we simply can't manufature enthusiasm, even if we believe the product "might" do what it promises to do.

Amway is an old dinosaur, despite that it is the largest of all MLMs. Compared to other MLM's similar to Amway, amway is one of the hardest systems to work due to its Matrix structure. All the new MLMs these days use a Binary approach, which speeds up building the size and stability of your team. Depending on which Amway team he joins, they may be promoting sponsoring by building a powerline. this mimics the binary system, however the products that are being sold by Amway will always be under scrutiny by consumers looking for the best deal ..
On top of that there is a stigma attached to Amway. Half the world has heard of it, and it will be hard to convince an ex-amwaynian (i.e. me) to rejoin Amway. I personally have found better MLMs to work (and am currently working with on the side), and would find it easier to make the same amount of money in these other MLMs.
The only benefit I see from joining Amway is the support training system. The things they teach you about busines and dealing with people is priceless. Only because we are encouraged to read it. I could easily purchase these materials at a cheaper cost and read it alone, but nobody was telling me to do it.
I would personally advise to find another MLM to join after hanging around Amway for a month or two, just to see what its like. However he has taken the right step in taking control of his life again, it's just the matter of finding the correct business to join. Contact me if you or your friend need more info.
