With all these answers, you should be thoroughly confused. The point is, religion is a very personal thing. Some people believe the way they do because they have been taught to believe that way from childhood. Others have some "born again" experience. Some religions believe they are the only ones that are right. The God they believe in goes by different names. None of us can really tell you which is the one right one. All you can do is find the one that is right for you. I happen to think that none of us have quite gotten it 100% right. After all, we are human.
Even though I am a Christian (with Taoist leanings) I have to admit that people who profess to be Christians have done some very un-Christian things. I really get upset at "war hymns" and "holier than thou" attitudes. Being Christian does not mean that we should view ourselves as being superior or that it gives us the right to dictate how everyone else should live their lives. You show Christianity through example, by leading a life of love, giving, helping. I don't think you need a denomenation to be Christian or close to God. All you need is to look into your heart and find what is right for you. |

I'vee been hearing that saying for a few years now and really like it.
I have been reading 'Conversations with God' very interesting.
A few ideas from the book;
Religion elimates the need to think.
Religion tells us what God is and doesn't allow us to experience it for ourselves.
God cannot be kept in a box, He is way bigger than we could ever imagine and so how can we possibly say He is this that or the other thing.
Religion teaches that God does not love certain things.
If He is the Creator of all, He is either everything or He is nothing, and having created it how could He dislike any of it?
My God does not require anything of me. He does not punish me, He loves me no matter what.
However... He has sent some great messengers that we have ignored, and by ignoring them we have caused ourselves to live in a manner unpleasing to us, not Him.
A good portion of the religions out there are fear based.
That is a shame. |

It is interesting, if you look up every instance that Jesus Christ mentions "religion" in the Bible, it is hard to find a positive connotation of that word. I think the below is pretty succinct.
Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world. - James 1:27
Jesus said, "I am the Way, the Truth and the Life" and "follow me". I have choosen to follow Jesus and I will continue to do so because I have have experienced His Love, His Grace and His Mercy. |

if you ask me personally, I'd none of them. they're all rules spelled out by higher people (in society) to keep the lower people in line and obedient. but if you really want to believe what's right for you, you should first of all know what you want and expect from a religion and what you want to worship and how. you may even join a cult if their beliefs were according to your tastes and beliefs. it doesn't always have to be a major religion like Christianity or Islam. |

The one that makes a way for us all to have a chance. I believe that it is Christianity--it doesn't matter what denomination, because basically all of those who follow what Jesus taught us (but really follow what he taught us) make this world a better place. A good example is whenever there's a crisis, whenever someone needs help...a Christian is always there willing to help....Saving starved people in Africa, Raising money for Tsunami victims, helping the homeless--Christian nations opening their doors and welcoming immigrants from all walks of life, allowing them to live a better life than the one that they would otherwise have in their countries of origin....Think about it... |

which ever one you chose. thankfully we have a freedom of religion in this country (or should have). i think there's a little good in all religions. it seems if you live a decent and fairly moral life; you'd be ok in any of them. :) |
