I hope that shoe looks good.
If he paid his sis and bro 1.5 each then the balance left to be paid to both parties is 50-1.5= 48.5. So he is supposed to pay them 48.5 each.
Moreover if we add 48.5 + 48.5 = 97, now that is fair because the remaining 3 dollars what what he paid them initially.
There is no dollar missing. Everything is intact, he gave them each 1.5 + 1.5 = 3 and then when you subtract 50 - 1.5 = 48.5. So that means if you add 48.5 + 1.5 = 50 it still gives you $50. There is no other dollar missing.
NB : 48.5 + 48.5 = 97 not 99. |

48.5 plus 48.5 is 97, not 99. Nothing is missing. Its an old trick, one that drove me crazy the first time I heard it. |

48.5 + 48.5 is actually 97.
There is no other dollar.
You made a math error. |

It's because 48.5 + 48.5 is 97, and not 99 |

Nobody is catching on to what you did, because you had worded it wrong. But, that's pretty weird!!
You start with needing $97.
you borrow $50 from sis and $50 from bro = $100
you buy shoes, $100 - $97 = $3
you keep $1
You give $1 back to bro and sis, each
$50 - $1 = $49
You owe $49 x 2 = $98
$98 + $1 you had = $99
$100 - $99 = $1
you are still missing $1
That's CRAZY!!! |

Is this some kind of trick Math question?
Money received (Total) - 100
Paid in advance - 1.5 + 1.5 = 3
Balance - 48.5 + 48.5 = 97
Total - 97 + 3 = 100
** 48.5 + 48.5= 97 and not 99...so there is no dollar missing. |
|

....
|
actually, the last part of the question is wrong.
so you owe 100 total to both, you give 1$ to each, making it 49+49 = 98. then comes the confusing part. you add 98 and 1 making it 99, seeming as if there is a missing dollar,
but, you forget one thing, the 98 is the money you OWE them, and the other dollar is extra, so instead of adding one, you subtract it, (hypothetically speaking if you gave an extra to one of your siblings) 98-1 = $97 ~ the money you used for the shoes. |
