Punishment for a 13 year old boy for disobaey parenents and the law?

Additional Details
he is on probation for riding his dirt bike in the street and ihave did every thing to make him stop but he want listen they say if i dont handel it the law will

Imaka
My main suggestion would be to take away the dirt bike. The problem happened with the dirt bike, so the natural consequence is to take away the dirt bike, not to take away other stuff or to use some other type of punishment. Riding the dirt bike is a privilege, not a right, so discuss with your son that he can ride the dirt bike when he can do so responsibly and obey the rules that you and your municipality have set about riding dirt bikes. With privileges come responsibilities. Maybe he isn't mature enough yet to have unsupervised access to the dirt bike. Many jurisdictions don't permit 13 year olds to operate any kind of a motorized vehcile unsupervised.

Probably a couple months grounding and no priveleges whatsoever.

Quest4questions
He broke the law? Did he get arrested? More details are needed I think. Because this could be something simple like breaking your and a state imposed curfew (which is of course bad), how ever it could be really serious like stealing or selling drugs which would require a completely different punishment.

Just in general though, I'd say he should have everything he enjoys doing taken away. I think he needs to understands how important it is to obey the law, yours and the countries laws.

You haven't said what the offense was. Disobedience is a very different thing under different circumstances. There is disobeying a law which should not be a law, or disobeying a law aimed at those under 18 which would be legal after that age, or disobeying a really significant law, such as those against violence or theft. Parents should speak to their children about the law and their own feelings about it, and be sure that the children understand that obedience to a law is a prudent thing even when one does not believe the law is fair. That is, for example, that smoking marijuana is hazardous to your freedom, even if it may be good for your health!

Children also need to understand that when they disobey a law, they make their parents responsible for it, which is unfair to the parent if the parent has already told them not to do it. So, for example, teenage shoplifting should be punished severely because it is two crimes, not just one. The first is theft, which is bad enough. The second is subjecting the parents to the humiliation of people thinking they did not raise their kids right, and having to deal with police and courts and lawyers and all, including the expense.

Make him do service hours for the law thing. Have you seen our highways?! Have him clean them up!

As for the parents, they can take priveleges away, like no TV or if there's something big he was planning for Spring Break that he's been looking forward to, take that away. Or if he's got a "girl friend" don't let him go on dates or wahtever they do that that age for a month or two. there's always the allowance cut that gets to them, too.

- There is no point of obeyance in terms of a child concerns.
- This is the age which do marvelous things which must be done with care love.
- Love, care and guidance will make them achiver in any sort of interest.
- Otherwise the threats and punishments will make them adamaent and thier live will be questionable in future.
- Such worst activities of punishment will leads to an intervension of child department and you will loose the quality of making a child's career.
- Be carefull and do the needful.
- all the best.

take away his weekends, thats the worst thing ever. make him feel guilty.

Miss-n-Wyo
Take away anything that is improtant to him and is recreational - iPod, internet, tv, cell phone, etc. Also let him go through the process of teh consequences of breaking the law, court police station etc. Scare the hell out of him - Show him it is important and stand your ground!!!!

Send him to a bootcamp. He'll straighten up or one those Scared Straight programs.

stepheemarie
erase all the games on his memory card, and delete all his custom ring tones, then ground him, but don't imprison him, because then he'll just rebel.
