Received final notification of, and 2nd check for $1997.00. Does not allude to Lotto ticket win. El Nacional De Navidad Spanish Sweepstakes Lottery/Free Lotto International Promotion program. $85,000.00 winner.
This is looks completely legitmate, however do not remember entering. :-) The wife signed completed a number of surveys last summer and it is remotely possible that one of those was an entry in this sweepstakes. The check is from NWA - Northwest Airlines, 7500 Airline Dr, Minneapolis, MN 55450-1101, First Bank of Grand Forks, 303 Third Street Northwest, East Grand Forks, MN 56721 Phone #: 613-261-0056
If anyone has any info on this would appreciate a follow up. Thank you Chuck |

As much as we would LOVE to believe that we really did win...we didnt!!! This is a scam!!! If you recieved one of these letters that has a check issued from Citizens Bank, They would love a copy!! You can fax this to 412-566-5605 Attn: Dan, Extention 7046 or you can give him a call at 1-877-229-6430 this is their fraud prevention line. By the way the 613# is actually in Ottawa Canada and they WILL NOT let you speak to a bank manager (because there isnt one) I also faxed a copy of my letter to LoterĂas y Apuestas del Estado

I work in banking, this is a common scam we see all the time. This IS NOT a valid check!!! I am assuming there is more to the letter ("please deposit this check to your bank account as part of your winnings, then from this check take out x ammount of dollars (probably $1500 or so), and Western Union (or some other quick form of payment) it to the following location to cover prcessing fees and taxes.") Do not do this! Take it to your bank if you like and talk to them, I am sure they are aware of the scam too. If you want to try to deposit in spite of it do not send them the money they requested for the fees until after it has cleared and your bank verifies that it is legitimate. (Be aware that most banks will charge you a fee from $15-30 for bad checks deposited.) Talk to your bank before you do anything, but I'm 100% sure that while it would be nice, it is not a real check. |

I just received the same thing and found your info while checking the internet to see if this for real. My check is also for $1997.00 and is issued by Citizens Bank. I called the phone # on the check and they are in NY. I'm afraid to do anything about it in case it is a scam. The letter says a lump sum pmnt of US$85,000 will be remitted to a designated acct. of certif. check will be hand delivered.... My next step will be to call the "agent" phone# on the letter. PLEASE let me know if you find anything out. I will do the same. Good luck- maybe we are winners???? |

I have also received a check from El Nacional De Navidad Spanish Sweepstakes in the amount of $1,997. The month before I received another letter similiar to this one stating the same thing with a check for $1,996. Oddly and strange that I didn't answer that letter that I received another this month too. Someone I know cashed a check just like it and lost her income tax check because the check wasn't any good. She spent the money but they got their money back from her so if you are willing to take that chance be willing to pay it back. |

hey chuck i received the same thing today i called the bank they said it was a real check. I am not really sure though because like your wife i don't remember entering and i did some looking on the Internet and it looks like this is a scam. Not sure if Ill go for it or not most likely I will take it to the bank and see what they have to say about it and go from there. |

If you recieve any form of contact from a lottery that you do not remember entering (especially if its in a foreign lottery) that should set off massive fraud alarms in your head.
I would carefully scrutinize the check, and then if it appears legitimate, you might consider taking it down to the bank and explain the situation to them. You can also contact the police. |

You cannot win a lottery you did not enter. This is a scam. If you cash the check they will get all of your banking info and drain your account. Report it to the postal authorities if it came through the mails. They can tell you if it is legitimate or not. |

I too received the check and letter and took them both down to my bank to investigate and was informed that this is indeed and scam. The bank asked to confiscate the letter, check and envelope and is reporting it to the fraud department. |

well I got the same letter, cashed the check and took the gamble on if it is a scam or not. I think it is, but its not a loss for me so I will gamble with it. But I will be calling this bank first thing Monday morning to get more info on the issuing of the check. They claim i should be receiving the check on Tuesday thru ups. I will be calling them also. As far as the check, its cash able, i didn't put it in my account. |
