The rule of law does apply to everyone in America, and the rule of law says that there is a presumption of innocence until guilt is proven. There's no proof refuting the VP's account that the event was an accident. |

Well, i dont agree with others about the law being fair to all. although he cant be convicted for harming his associate friend . The conspiracy theory cannot be ruled out!!.if Mr.cheney was indeed shot his friend by accident, they why did he try to use his power as "vice president" to hush up the story, (the story leaked through the rancher on whose land they were hunting the birds) And after the story broke out, Cheney was "NOT APOLOGETIC NOR DID HE APPOLOGISE " for commiting a mistake. Why would the Vice President be imprisoned? It was an accident not a planned crime. Do all people get imprisoned for injurying people in auto accidents, etc? NO! The Vice President has no more rights than we, the American citizen does. |

Hundreds of hunting accidents happen in America every year. People do not go to jail because of it unless there was circustances that show that someone was acting in an irresponsible manner. The police question Mr. Cheney for hours, and ruled that there was no drugs, alcohol, or neglagence involved. Period. It was an accident. There is no double standard here.
In response to warmachine... He WAS NOT hunting without a licence. Get it right. He did not purchase the correct $6 stamp that he was supposed to. He did not even do it... His staff got the licence for him, and made a simple mistake. He will probably pay a $50 fine or something. It really isn't a big deal. If you were a hunter, or if you even watched a balanced news program, you would know that. |

It seems to me because he is VP that most everyone seems to think a "quick sword of justice" should swing immediately. I'm sure there is a lot more investigation going on than we are aware of and no one has said the matter is settled. But from the beginning of the investigation it was said that there was no evidence of criminal intent or wrong-doing. Rule of Law in America is anyone is presumed innocent until proven guilty and unless someone immediately pleads guilty, the process can go for weeks, months, even years. |
