Scamming at Internet Auctions - Ever been scammed/ripped off?
Sometimes, scammers are very clever and they are able to "mask" their true identity under the logo or name of a company that has a great reputation. This way, merchandise can be for sale, then this false company never ships the goods, or it was a misleading description.

Have you or someone you known had the bad experience of purchasing something, only to not receive the goods or the items were very different than advertised? What did they do about it? Any recourse?

Others here have good advice about how you should buy from on-line auctions.

If you want to report the scammer(s) and ripoffs, there is a place to do this:

http://www.ripoffreport.com/#sec1

This website was created by people who got ripped off... There are instructions about how you can report the ripoff. You can also read other ripoff reports. I use the site to check out businesses BEFORE doing any business with them.

Yep, I buy quite a lot in Ebay. Generally if the seller does not accept PayPal or credit card it is a sign that you are going to get scammed. If you really like the item though you should talk to them - sometimes when you email them BEFORE placing the bid and ask to accept PayPal they agree, sometimes they say that they don't want to pay fee and you mutually agree that you are going to pay 3% extra if you win and want to use PayPal. ALWAYS avoid Nigeria! It is a big scammers nest.

Ok, bad experience - I paid with money order for a laptop in Spain and never got it. I still don't know what I could do in situation like that, so no more money orders for me.

I bought a router and got a different model. I emailed the seller, they asked me to ship it back, I did, and they emailed me that's it's a wrong one and they won't refund it and demanded that I returned the right one! I forwarded everything to PayPal and got full refund pretty quickly.

I bought some replacement styluses for my Pocket PC. In 3 weeks I emailed the seller, he said that he shipped them and confirmed my shipping address and promised to ship again. After 40 days since the purchase I requested refund from PayPal. Should I mention that I never received any styluses?

So, pay with PayPal or credit card, demand the refund if you still have issues before refund deadline (I think it's 45 days now) no matter what seller tells you, and you'll be fine.

I buy tons of thinks off of eBay and have only been ripped off once. I only buy with a credit card through PayPal because even though this person didn't ship my item, I didn't lose a penny. I filed and won my dispute with PayPal, but they couldn't get the money because the scammer didn't leave it in their PayPal account. That's why I used a credit card (not a debit card). My CC company was very glad to reverse the charge and give me my money back.

DEE CON JESTED
best thing to do is not to repond via a email you receive, but go directly to the site of where you would like to purchase and check the feedback! good luck!

I was almost scammed the first time I attempted to buy something on eBay. Lucky they caught on to the guy before I sent any payment. They advised me they closed his account and not to send any payment.
