Jeff C | Sell a used laptop online? |
I would like to sell a Toshibe Satellite A135-S2396.
I have come over a few sites,
http://www.cashforlaptops.com/
and
http://www.laptopsintocash.com/
I'm not sure which or if neither to trust.
I WILL NOT use eBay to sell a laptop.
If you know a site you have sold one please tell me.
THANK YOU! |

Looking online, as you should do, it appears that nobody ever says that cashforlaptops.com is a scam site, although several have asked your question in various forums. In other words, it looks as if cashforlaptops is legit. I didn't check laptopsintocash.com--you can do a search online with the website name and the word scam.
I agree that eBay is pretty much worthless anymore. Between their bloated fees, PayPal, and the Nigerians, it's too much money and work. Everybody on here is telling you to go with Craigslist.org, which I think is a good idea, because you can deal with locals whom you can meet in person to seal the deal with cash only, after they've had a chance to look at the goods. Look at eBay listings, cashforlaptops and Craigslist to get an idea what you can charge for your notebook.
I sold my Toshiba notebook on eBay, but that was before the fee increases. I still had to deal with Nigerians, and they almost ruined my sale. If I had to do it again, I wouldn't.
Also, see this website on how to research online businesses: http://consumerist.com/377006/how-to-research-an-unknown-online-retailer Good luck with this. |

eBay is by far the best option.
They have changed their payment options.
Much more secure.
It will only be credit card and Paypal payment soon. |

Generally, you'll get more money through eBay or Craig's list, but I believe both of the sites you've listed are safe. They purchase outright, so you work through their calculators and they'll pay you that amount for your laptop. BUT if they get it and find the condition or features to be different from those you provided, they'll reduce the amount.
Consider taking your computer to a local shop too. Sometimes they'll buy them outright and that saves you the hassle of packing and shipping.
I've sold several items using eBay. I don't know what your objections are, but you can sell 'as is.' You can require payment through PayPal or otherwise set the terms of your payment. You can even use a broker to take care of the exchange of money and goods for you.
There are also several other auction sites on the Internet. You'd need to read the terms for each one to see if it's worth it you to use them. Google or Dogpile "online auctions" for links. |
