Well, this is a tough question. And there is NO easy answer. First of all, it really does not matter whether we would like them to be released or not as the legal authority has made the rules. It does however seem that many of the released sexual convicts do seem to congregate in areas near schools and young families (which is well defined in all states) although it may just be that it SEEMS that way because we only notice that. In addition, there are many types of 'sexual abuse' lumped into one legal definition. I agree that the pervert 25 to 65 year old molesting a young girl or the 20-something female schoolteacher molesting a male student has a serious problem. But what about the 18 year old boy and his 17 year old girlfriend? Or the two 15 year old lovers? (Apart from the 'rape' issue) In most states they are legally equated and must be on the offender's list. That being said, this is a major issue we are currently dealing with as my district (I am my district's representative to my state's Children's Abuse Prevention Board) is home to a very sick predator who killed a family, abducted 2 children and later killed one of them. The remaining child was rescued and the predator awaits trial. I can't imagine what goes through his sick brain to commit such an act. He was released from another state by a judge who apparently did not understand how sick this guy really is.
What can you do? Know your state's laws and abide by them. Find out who these people are and avoid them. If they illegally live too close to a school or playground, report them to authorities. Be aware that you may not harrass them in most states and they have legal recourse against you if you do. Above all, know where your children are, who they are with, and that they are informed of what to do in a bad situation. Practice with your kids if necessary. AND REMEMBER, IF YOUR KIDS HAVE TO 'JUST SAY NO' IT IS ALREADY TOO LATE. A SITUATION EXISTS AND THEY MUST BE PREPARED TO KNOW WHAT TO DO. |

They have all the right to live where they want to live,as long as they paid thier dept for society.even that it's always a freaky thing to have those kinds of murders in neighborhoods.U always feel frightened when u see one of them even if he was in the church,They say that murders never change.U always have to take care on your self, your home & at the 1st place your own kids.U need to have precautions & try not to make any offensive moves towards them.I think the law should keep them in prison for a long time,If they didn't it will be hard for any region they live in.I know one who had that experince,a murder was realesed & he was livivn' in his neighborhood.he felt frightened to the digree that he moved from the region.Of coarse not all of ppl can do that or even offer it,but they have to deal with.I think they should hope that the prison had changed those ppl to a better ones. |

I lump child molesters/sex offenders and murderers into different categories. Sex offenders, hell no. Murderers, it depends.
Where should they be allowed to live? I thought middle and upper class America had already come to a solution that was to their liking. Send them to the poorer neighborhoods. Poor people don't care about their children anyway. Right? |

It's a hard question. After they've been released from prison they have to go somewhere, but everywhere is somebody's neighborhood. |

I think they should be shipped to a island where they can't get back to our kids. At least sex offenders should anyways. I think murders should just stay in jail and never be released again. I know if someone ever touched my kids I would be happy to spend the rest of my life in jail for murdering them. :) Im not crazy I just love my kids!!!!!!!!1 |

Being a parent of three young children I would have to say absolutely not. But you are right when you ask where they should go. I think the law should be that it is not in a family oriented residential neighborhood. First of all they should have to stay somewhere away from a place that would tempt them to do the same thing again. I myself would agree that they should stay in prison for life. Usually these type of people do not reform and just repeat their crime. Im sorry but i think it is hard for anyone to trust someone who has comitted such a horrible crime. Anyway i dont think child molestors would have a chance in society, at least not the one i lived in. |

To live is to learn

HELL NO. There has never in the history of sexual deviants been one that has been reformed. I say castration is the key. |

I think we should get to watch them being hanged. I watch the news everday and am disgusted with the fact that so many who got out of jail recently are on their way back, what the hell is this world coming to. |

Hell no the shouldn't be no where near our neighborhoods! So they can rape and abuse little kids again? So more little kids can commit suicide and hurt themselves and others because someone hurt them? So more kids can come up missing and dead? NO!!! They need to keep them in a nursing home or someone locked away from all little kids! Kids shouldn't have to go through pain and suffering like that! |

no i don't think they should be i have a child molester living down the street from me and sometime he will stand outside and watch the kids play i always make them go into the house and that is not far to the kids
i think they should never be released so they don't need a place outside of jail |

Well let's see if you had a child the answer would probably be a little more obviouse to you. I have a daughter, and personally I would not like it if a known child molestor was my neighbor. Yes there are ways to find out, I know in MI there is a public access sex offender list, all you do is type the name and voila there they are. |

Not really a question of "Should"; if they've served their time then they are released. Thankfully we have the ability to track them and know that they live in our neighborhoods. |

It is a natural thing to hate child molesters. But they have to live somewhere after they have paid their debt. I think they should be watched like a hawk but should be allowed to live where they want. As for sex offenders and murderers the same thing is true. To do anything else would be and is unamerican. |

Well, after they've served their sentences, they must be released somewhere. It's a good idea to make child molesters and sex offenders register in a database so they can be tracked; and I also think it's good to make them put signs in front of their homes and on their cars indicating that they are registered sex offenders.
There are different types and causes of murder. I don't think all murderers are unforgivable. Child abusers and sex offenders are ALL scum. |

I don't think they should release these sick, twisted perverts from prison at all. They should find some deserted island somewhere and build a prison for them to stay in. Then I say let them do their sick little acts on each other. |

I found out AFTER we moved into our house last year that our next door neighbor is a convicted child molester in another state. The people that rented the house before us stated that the landlord AND his secretary knew that there was a sex offender living there. Should we talk to a lawyer and ask questions about our rights? I do have 2 children, an 8 year old girl and a 2 year old boy. |
