I think that looking busy is actually harder work than just doing your job, and the time doesnt half drag. If you're gonna not work then go the whole hog, put your feet on the desk and tell your boss you're having an 8-hour break. Or just go home.

Uhm.....so uh.......what IS your work? Cause if you have an office job, the looking busy is tricky. Oh don't get me wrong; it CAN be done. I have it down to a science. I'll be typing away scrunching up my brow, leaning into the screen in a mindful way as if to scrutinize the issue that lies before me. I thoughtfull rub my chin with my forefinger as if to contemplate how to solve this challenge before me. Yet, I'm on Yahoo! Answers talking about zombies.
If you work our in the field and must be on the go the whole day, I still think you can "look busy." Pop your earbuds in and tuck your ipod in your pocket and go on that sales call. When they ask you a question, just nod and bob that head. All is good.
I guess you can see where my answer is going. My vote is for you to NOT do the actualy work. Work at looking busy. Get that down to an art. Once mastered, you can accomplish anything. ;)

why ruin a perfectly good day of lousing off by doing work?

Just make it look like your busy. It's Passover for Christ sakes. We should be out for this Holiday. Easter is as big or if not bigger than Christmas for Catholics.

Get together with a few other co-workers and have a safety meeting: Nobody works, nobody gets hurt. They can't fault you for being such a concerned employee.

You should pursue looking for something you enjoy doing, hence it won't come across as "work" to you. This new employment will make you happier, healthier, and wise. Good luck!

absolutely not work is very overrated, and it's not worth the stress. I think you should quit your job and make life alittle bit easier for everyone.
