Should I quit my job and get sober? Will I find another job? Will I get sober? Can people change?

I think that what you should do is go to an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting!

I get the impression that your addiction and your work are related. If that is the case, your sobriety is so much more important to you than anything else. As someone else already posted, you can always get another job.

Overcoming your addiction won't be easy but it can be done. And people change because they choose to. Be sure your sobriety is occuring because it's what you want. If others are encouraging it, that's important. Just be sure you have your own reasons for it.

I wish to say this first YES people can change if they want to and only if they want to. As for quitting your job and then quitting drinking I am not sure where your logic is in this. Not having a job may not be a very good thing while trying to quit drinking, as that in itself could lead to depression and escalate drinking. How about quitting drinking while still with this job and switching jobs once your head is clear and sober. I certainly wish you the best in your endeavor and watch your friends, some really hate to see their friends do better than them and will try to get you to go out drinking etc with them. So take care and put them on the back burner for awhile, straighten yourself out so that you can deal with the pressure they will exert on you. And they will, without even trying because that is all THEY know. Good luck and take care

If you want to get sober, I wouldn't get dependent on this site either it can be addicting. You're really the only person to make this decision but you've admitted you have a problem so whatever it takes to get on the wagon. Hopefully your friends & family will be supportive of you. Best of luck & there's always a job out there.

People can change its up to the person to change themself. Yeah get sober and if you have to quit and find another job so be it. It better to have your health and be happy then have a job and be drunk. But it's all up to you do change.

yes man quit your job if its killing you. to get sober it is better also to have a limited gas - cash. quit your job, stay inside for a while, learn to be slow on things re invent yourself for the better. you know when your ready get a new job and keep the pace.

If it's in your heart to change your way's then you will. No one can make you. You have to reach that bottom and when you do you'll know it. I have 2 years sobriety and me and my family are the better for it. As you and your family will be. You shouldn't be working now. Concentrate on your sobriety. If you are reaching out for help you may be ready.

If you get sober, you will get a chance to get a better job then you probably have now. People do change, I know from first hand by people in my family. You have to be dedicated to getting sober. Its hard and you will have times when you want to continue your bad habit, but you have to remember what you are doing it for. Good luck :)

A person must want sobriety. Nobody can give it to you. You can get and stay sober with or without: job, family, money, car, etc... It's entirely up to you. Do know that there are many caring and helpful people and organizations out there to help you, who ask nothing in return. You see, you are helping them to stay sober at the same time. All change comes from within. You can't buy it. The job, whichever job, will always be there, when you're ready. Nobody, but nobody can tell you what to do. You have a chronic, progressive, and ultimately fatal affliction but you can recover as so many have. We can't do it alone, though. You will get sober if you want it bad enough.

The answer to your question is based on how much you want to change and get sober. My husband is a recovering alcoholic and drug addict and is a member of AA and he did not quit work. He had a $20,000 a year Gin habit and a $30,000 a year cocaine habit. It can be done but the first few weeks are going to be difficult. I would not suggest quitting your job UNLESS you work around alcohol. I.E. bar, liquor store, etc.. You will get sober but you have to realize that alcoholism is a disease and most of all you are sick. Join a local Alcoholics Anonymous and get involved with the group. It is very difficult to stop an addiction but there is a higher power namely Jesus that can help you through this problem.
