No, because we'd have to cede all fiscal policy to the Central European Bank - we wouldn't be able to set our own interest rates, etc.
Plus, adoption of the Euro is irrevocable according to the treaty - The only way out would be to leave the entire union
(hmmmm.... there's a thought, no more metric system, no more straight bananas, no more immigrants flooding in..........) |

No. We have a strong economy and although keeping our own currency has caused problems in the manufacturing and import/export sector, we would be a weaker country as part of the Eurozone.
There are pros and cons but on the whole, I'm happier out, at least for the moment. |

Not yet. The pound is as strong as it's ever been. Might as well wait few years for it to fall cos we're going to feel the pain of the Euro for six or seven years after its introduction. |

The Eurocrats are changing the way that the British people live in many small and pathetic ways.
We have already had Imperial measure almost ripped from us.
For the UK to embrace the Euro, it would have to be changed to be called the Pound with a new symbol (a good one would be £).
That is the ONLY way that the general public would accept it.
Pounds Sterling is recognised around the world as a strong currency, don't let the European Union force a change on us that may have a knock-on effect over the world! |

No! We've as good as told them to shove their metric measurements (except for the PC brigade getting it taught in schools) so I don't see why we shouldn't tell them where to put their Euros too! |

Nooooo! The Euro is just another attempt to collectivize Europe, and someday the world. What people who advocate this don't understand is that different countries and cultures necessarily have different needs, and they can't be cookie-cuttered into one form. While "diversity" in one country is detrimental to that country's identity, trying to make the world over in one country's vision, or one person's, is just as bad. |

NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I mean, from the UK's point of view. and YES!!!!!! from the rest of Europe. The pound has a much higher exchange rate! so if the uk were to take on the Euro in essence their money would be worth less....whereas the Euro would be worth more than it is..still less than the pound though. (the pound to euro exchange right now is 1.51) |

MiKe Drazen

yes they should, I am tired of changing my currency when ever I travel to another country, all the conversion rates I have to memorize on a daily basis, 1 currency for the world

I think it would answer a few of the problems that seem to be prevalent in newspapers and on TV, notably economic migration.
If the whole of europe had one currency, then migrants would not be so inclined to come to britain, However, as most financial institutions want to be near the source of the bodie that set's interest rates etc, then surely the large financial institutions that have taken over from Manufacturing in the UK would migrate to be closer to the european central bank. So I'd say A resounding NO.
But it will happen! regardless of popular opinion in the UK.
China and India will dictate the rate of change though. |
