Yes. Unless the store was negligent in where it put an item. Say, you walk by and something falls off the shelf, and you never touched it. but, say you picked up something, or your child did and the item was dropped, then yes you should pay for it. |

i think that its important to try not to brake things when you are in a store. i think that you shouldn't have to pay for the whole thing if it was an accident, but if you do it on purpose then you should. if its an accident you should just have to pay for half of it and if makes a mess have to help clean up. hope this helps! |

You DO NOT have to pay for an item that broke. They write it off an an operating loss. Try a legal site it will support me. |

If you get caught, yes the store owner would make you pay for it by threatening to call the cops.
To address the "should" aspect of your question:
- Yes I think you should have to pay for it if the store doesn't have insurance. Large stores like Wal-Mart have insurance so no don't pay. For small Mom & Pop stores, you should pay them. |

If you broke the item through your own negligence, then yes, you should offer to pay. Most larger stores say "don't worry about it" but smaller stores can't afford that kind of loss. If the breakage was clearly not your fault, then no. What I do is walk the broken item over to the register (or in the case of a spill, will point it out) and described what happened. |

Yes. The store paid the wholesaler for it already. |

Yes, you must. Try to put your self in the shop owner's shoes. |

I say no, but the shop owner probably disagrees! |
