If we are talking ignorance...not stupidity, not specifically racism, homophobia, hate or anything like that...just ignorance, then lets look at Webster's definition for ignorance.
Ignorance - The condition of being uneducated, unaware, or uninformed.
So, the greatest cause of ignorance must be a lack of a proper education.
Whether to blame the schools, the parents or the society is up to you, and a great new question!
