Sky - are they allowed to do this?

I recently moved house and signed up for their Â£16 a month offer (TV, Broadband and calls). A few weeks in I get a letter telling me the price is going up, are they allowed to do this?

as the others said, it's probably in the small print!
BUT
when they try and put up the price on my granddad.. they usually ring him.
and he just says that he will be switching providers asap
and they give him free stuff.
like free sports channels for 6 months or something.

yes - it will be in the small print of your contract (which i assume is for a year and your tied in)

Read what it says in your contract.

check your small print, it may included in a clause that says something like "we reserve the right to increase the price at any time"
however we just moved house like you and i was going to sign upto them as well for the same package, but i spoke to bt and told them what i was going to do and they said that sky were being investigated for misleading customers as the Â£16 package depends on your area and in some cases they couldnt access the line for broadband as bt had clips on the line preventing them from doing so, and so they were having to increase the price per month by Â£17, which they say is what bt charge them for using the line. but apparantly they werent clear enough to customers about it.
so i rang them back and told them what bt had said and to say they were peeved is an understatement. tehy claimed bt had broken rules about slating other services, but when i pressed them they admitted they couldnt give me the Â£16 package and i would be charged an extra Â£17 a month for the broadband. i declined and stayed with bt. they are able to check the line and tell you the final price you will pay each month before you sign anything.
if i were you i would check your contract with them, phone them and say you arent happy and that you agreed a price and they have put it up and if necassary ask to speak to a superviser or manager. if there is nothing in your contract saying they can put up the price then make a HUGE fuss!
it worked for me when bt tried to back track on their verbal agreement to reduce my broadband to Â£12.99 a month if i stayed with them and not the Â£17.99 i was paying.

Ring up, Tell them that you are not happy with this and you are thinking of switching to something else (Maybe Virgin tv) they will try everything to keep you. We recently got a sky + box free.

Yep, you'll find they do it on a regular basis.

they can put it up when they want, it`s just like gas and electric.

Yes it says something about it in the contract,they don't usually put the price up too much and it only happened the once to me,i think it went up about Â£1 a month
