Spoof emails from Ebay asking for bank details - anyone else had them?
I've had 2 emails recently delivered to bulk asking for bank details and a PIN number! These are in US format and ARE NOT FROM EBAY. If the message has not also been delivered to your Email message account it is not from them. The info from Ebay help states that they will never ask for personal details in an email. Beware.

I've had tons of these things too - and the real worry is that they're getting better and better. I find it's best to either;
a) Login to eBay to see if the email has any truth
b) Check and see whether or not the email actually has your eBay ID name in it
And in every case; forward the phishing email to eBay; it might help them to fight this kinda stuff.

only 2 your lucky, we have had barclays, royal bank of scotland, smile are just a few, all bogus just delete them and ignore them

Yes I get them all the time, also many purport to be from paypal, not to mention my banks. I just ignore them and forward a copy onto the company.

whotever you do do not reply to any email claiming to be ebay and of course never give out any bank details wotsoever.... one of the latest spoof emails are people who send saying they want there item..... do not under any circumstances respond..... as you will find that it will lock you out of your ebay account - when you put ur pass word it comes up not recognised.... it can take abt 10 days for ebay to reinstate your account..... the way i check these type are copy and paste the number into the search facility on ebay ...... you will find that the item does not exist do the same with the ebayers id and it wont exist either...... ive got over 655 feedback !!!!

I have been spoofed up to the eyeballs. Never click on anything. Log into your eBay account and check your massages. If it's there then it's real

Keith Perry
I've not received that actual email but I have received other emails from "so called Ebay" about other things telling me to log into my account.

You can tell its not from ebay the way the sender spells Ebay. The emails I get has EBAY. Real Ebay emails does not use all caps.

Dont click the log on through the email. They are trying to get your name and password. If you log through their site then you just gave them your information.

Yes, I get them alot too. I forward them on to Ebay spoof and just pay real close attention to the emails I get stating are from ebay

I too had it a couple of times. Reported to ebay. They sent me a standard reply using a standard template with what ebay policies are and that they never ask personal information.

Unfortunately I get them all the time fro e-bay and from PayPal. I just delete them because I know they are spoof e-mails.

I am sure they get a bunch of people to bite when they are sent out though.

Yeah, I've had 2 from paypal (allegedly).
You can tell they're fake because they refer to you as "Dear member" instead of using your real name, the w4nkers!

Do not reply to them, just forward them to spoof@ebay.co.uk

No email or phonecall should ask for your personal details.

Yep loads and from numerous banks too. At first I sent them on to corressponding bank/ ebay. Now I just delete, especilly as I didnt have accounts with any of the banks telling me to 'updat my details'!!!

practicalwizard
yes, i've gotten one. there's somewhere you can report it to e-bay, i think.

julie m

Yes, I get them often. IGNORE AND DELETE. The best thing to do if you are not sure is place your mouse curser over any link in the email, but DON'T click. 99% of the time you will see that the real web page the link will take you to is not the official eBay website. That is how you know it is a fraud email and most like a scam.
