Why does tomb not rhyme with comb?
Why does heard not rhyme with beard?
Why does laughter not rhyme with daughter?
English is a hodgepodge of so many other languages, its rules are kind of jerry-rigged. |

its true that American english can be hard because we use words from many other languages as well as the slang from them sll (add the slang of our own)
Then throw ebonics into the mixture - they actually tried to pass it as a curriculum in some California school district (I think it was Oakland) as if the language isnt already messed up enough! |

What is it confusing about? |

Meese sounds awkward. Languages derive due to the different regional influences from different languages such as Latin and the Germanic languages. If something is hard for you, chances are it will not be for others, not to insult your intelligence or anything, but this question is one you'd find on the back of a gum wrapper, where they keep the deep ponderings of six year old children.
Pick up a book and start reading.
I agree with you that English is very confusing. |

The word moose is from the Algonquian Indians. With many indian tribes, plural and singular are the same. Ex.: Deer and grouse. |
