It's really quite simple. The boss isn't always right but the boss is always the boss.

This doesn't mean you will always agree but it does mean you have to weigh your options and pick your battles.

Well, if you've got to choose between the Boss or the Customer, the other one who's always right, at least the customer will eventually go away.

As a statistician and data analyst, I've been able to evade this issue many times, pointing out to my superiors that "the data are always right". As a civil servant, I've been able to point out that our "boss" is the community we work for, and that while we answer to certain elected officials and their subordinate appointees, the truth is the ultimate "boss".

If the data favor a certain answer to a question, and that answer isn't to the boss's liking, well then, rephrase the question and I'll be happy to provide a data analysis that will give "the boss" an acceptable answer. Actually, the data aren't always "right" but a set of data can be described as being valid and a range of values accurate within a certain degree of confidence. That's why I ended up doing what I do, so I can always argue for truth, but still give "the boss" an answer without an argument.

Been sticking to that for 27 years and have developed a supportive network of high-level administrators that respect my work and have learned how and how not to ask questions. It helps that I've been an expert witness in federal court on the topic I'm most often asked to analyze.

i guess the boss is always right because he/she is giving you orders based on what he/she "wants".therefore, theyre right in their own minds

He's human.

If he's not right, he'll never say unless the corporate culture changes so that people inside become more humane and less competitive.

Just smile and agree to what the boss wants.

When you walk away, brush it off and do what you promised.

Pray that in 2009 companies change, become smaller and more fair. Those huge companies are too big and too ridiculous. They destroy people.

The issue is not about the whether the Boss is right or wrong, it's about whether the Boss does the right thing. Basically Bosses do mistakes (it's obviously) so how can this statement be true, correct.
I believe the issue is not about who the person is but it's all about what the right thing to do is.

what i know is the customer is always right..haha.

but the boss aint always right. they can't just lead lead and lead. they have to accept comments and suggestions for they are not all-knowing.

No, the boss isn't always right.

But openly defying the boss, especially in front of others, is unprofessional, and bad form, and most likely will not advance you.

Sometimes it's best to let the boss learn from their own mistakes. I must say, I ALWAYS learn more from my failures than from my successes.

If it's a serious matter, I *might* mention my concerns to the boss in private, and very diplomatically.

This xxx is always right thing, is garbage... but the really important mantra is:

"Disagree and commit"

This means that you should always tell your boss if you think something is wrong, but if he insists anyway - it's HIS responsibility, and to be a good employee, you can disagree, but you MUST commit to achieving success in whichever direction your boss chooses.

Disagreement is OK, but it is wrong to disagree and sabotage... you must disagree but work for success.

Chaz
The "Boss" is seldom right, but must always be allowed to appear as he/she were right. It was in the interests of self-preservation that this quote originated.

total BS. Most people end up being smarter than their bosses.

yes definitely correct! this what was printed notice to the entrance of our office

Rule No.1 THE BOSS IS ALWAYS RIGHT

Rule No.2 IF THE BOSS IS WRONG! GO BACK TO RULE NO.1

so we have no choice the boss gives rules and we must follow it!!
