Reasons:
-The falling confidence of foreign investors in the dollar (and US credit in general) based on the subprime crisis
-lower interest rates indicate possible inflation in the future
-balance of trade deficit is huge

Oil has nothing to do with the dollar--it is denominated in dollars therefore a change in the price of a barrel does not affect the value of a dollar.

Despite the current falling dollar versus most of the major currencies (its been rebounding a little versus the pound and is expected to rebound more over the next year) the dollar is still the most important currency in the world. 85% of all foreign exchange transactions happen through it. So just because its having a hard day does not mean that all is lost.

Our accumulating national debt and the ongoing trade deficits are the main reasons for the decline of the US dollar, relative to other currencies. I support political candidates who address these issues and stand for fiscal responsibility. I believe the Bush administration has been fiscally irresponsible, embarking upon a war which costs nearly a trillion dollars, after implementing tax cuts.

There's the U.S. budget deficit and the broadest measure of the U.S. trade gap, known as the current account deficit.

Pretty sad though, because of all the foreign countries.
