The fifty cent Kennedy halves from 1964-69 were made of silver, those are worth more than 50 cents. Halves made after 1969 are most definetly worth 50 cents, unless you have one with an "S" mintmark, in which case it might be worth more. Fifty cent pieces before 1964 are also silver, and are definetly worth more than fifty cents.
