Think this is a Scam?
I got a phone call from a well known charity a few weeks ago, asking if they can send me some raffle tickets to sell. Being charitable, i agreed. No tickets arrived, then last night i got a phone call from a well spoken guy, who asked me to send the tickets and money back. I told him no tickets arrived, so he asked for a donation, and wanted my credit card details. I declined to give them out on the phone, so he asked me to send a cheque. The address is a PO Box, and he asked me to put my name and address on the back of the cheque, i think it sounds dodgy. I am not going to send a cheque, do you think this sounds a bit dodgy?
Additional Details
He said he was from the RNIB, and asked me to put that, and LSWW on the cheque, whatever that means.

Barking mad
Definately a scam, but I have not heard of this one. If he calls again ask for his phone number so you can call him back, see what happens.

Dodgy scam by the sounds of it, trying to make you feel guilty coz you did not sell-non existing-raffle tickets!
bet you never heard of this charity!

Twat
Definitely a scam. You must notify the police because other gullible people may fall for it.

Cold Bird
Sounds more than dodgy! Did you get the name of the bloke? Could you maybe ring the charity to see if they know anything about this, if it's a big scam the charity involved should know about it.

private dick
go with your gut...it is well dodgy...send nothing and hang up if he calls again...threaten him...not wiv old bill...wiv the boys...tell him you will call the dogs in...even if you have no heavy mob you can call on..he does not know this...YES...IT IS A SCAM

A typical scam directs you to an anonymous mail box that is difficult to follow through on and no respectable charity or business will ever ask for your banking details. Even your own bank will not ask for such details by phone or online banking. You did right in rejecting the con, remember next time they come after you to do the same.

mannit m
yes, report it to the police, see oif anyone else has been contacted in this way

Gill D
You should sign up with the Telephone Preference Service cause that will stop you getting these type of phonecalls. Under NO CIRCUMSTANCES should you send anything to these people. If you are in any doubt, why don't you contact the charity directly.

no way dont send a thing. people are just getting clever they can imitate anyone nowadays. they did this over the phone now if they had knocked your door you could have asked for a valid id. avoid!

Yorkshire Pudding
No don't send anything. Bet they witheld their number. Register with the telephone preference service and to stop calls like this. I registered and it works wonders.

mary H
yep i wouldn't send a penny of your money to him

sweetboba

Yes, it is very dodgy. Don't send cheque and if you write down your address and name... Why when you receive a cheque book from the bank they ask you to destroy the front page with that info?

swan tips
Definately.. do not send anything.. please... you will be doing yourself a big disserviceif you do!!

kimzzooo

yes it is, do not send them anything, and forget about it. if they call again, tell them you donated some money onnline or somthin or tell them you are not intrested, just do it yourself elsewhere, then you who you are dealing with u know.
choose a charity of ur choice and make a donation.
but it was excellent what u did.

blkdude4u02a
Yes this is a scam. About five yrs ago someone from Australia called me and told me I won a million dollars but all I would have to do is buy some candy for them with a credit card. That is a scam. Check into that!
