justanotheruser | To take it or not to take it? |
I have two scenarios below, please tell me which one you do with each scenarios, and if you want please add aditional advice. Thanks.
1. You live in a high crime area, and you have a couple of very valuable things. You go on a one week vacation. Would you leave the valuables at home or take it with you?
2. You live in a low crime area, and you have a couple of very valuable things. You go on a one week vacation. Would you leave the valuables at home or take it with you? Additional Details I rarely use things so loosing it on vacation is'nt a problem for me. |

I'd make sure I had renter's / homeowner's insurance and go and enjoy my vacation!! |

i would leave my valuables, taking them with you will only attract attention to yourselves and they probably would rob you to see if you have any more valuables |

In either case, leave the valuables.
Suggestions: Use timers for lights and a radio to make your residence appear lived in while you're gone.
Another idea is having a friend or relative house-sit for you. |

I will take them with me...in both cases... |

These do not apply to me as I keep my valuables in a lockbox safe at the bank. My vacations are worry free and stuff is insured. |

In either case, I would take what I need or want on vacation and leave the rest at home. It's a shame to have to worry in either case, so it might be good to invest in a safe deposit box or security storage vault.
Have a nice vacation! |

For #1...
Depending on the size of the things (jewelry vs. a home theater system) I would take them with me. And I would be sure to put them in a hotel safe or somewhere else safe when I get to my vacation spot.
For #2...
I would leave them at home, but I would take practical measures to ensure that my home is secure. (Lights on timer switch, neighbor to watch my house, make sure doors/windows are locked, etc.). |

Leave them no matter where I live because with my dumb luck, I'd misplace the darned things! |

1. I would take the valuables with me. Right now, I live in a high crime area and we have been the victim of burglary twice and vandalism 6 times -- all in one year. I don't want my things stolen, therefore, I would take very valuable things with me, just in case. And, I would make sure my security cameras were on and I would have someone come by and check the house every day.
2. I would leave the valuables, because I would be less worried that someone would take them. I've lived in a low-crime area as well and never once had to worry about theft where there was a neighborhood watch system. I would still have someone come by and check the house every day and I would still make sure the security cams were on, but I would leave my most valuable things because I would be less concerned with someone actually getting away with taking them than I would in a high crime area. |

1. I would take a couple of them with me, but those are ones you might take anyway..like my digi camera. I would be sure to tell the cops I would be outta town, and to please do drive bys, and also have a trusted friend check the house for me nightly. I would also be sure a car is in the driveway, hold the paper and mail, put a auto timer on a visible light, to go off randomly so it seems like someone was home.
2. I would leave it and have someone check my house every coupld of days.
In both cases I would be sure to have all my serial numbers written down and my insurance up to date. |

I leave them at both places...if something is so valuable to me that I cannot leave it at my home...I wouldn't have it |

Leave them at home - Because in the bible, it tells us to store up treasures in heaven, not in the world, so that robbers/thefts can break in and steal them. Agree ? God Bless You ~ Joe ~ |

Buddy...
better option is to get an Insurance for your valuable things...and rest assured....even if they get stolen...you will get the cash to buy again....in both cases |

Personally, i would take all my valuables for the 2 scenarios... One thing for sure, all your valuables are going to be safe with you. Then, you'll have a more peaceful mind and you can enjoy your one week vacation... |
