To those who have cashiered or are currently cashiers...?
Did you ever get irritated when ppl just set the money on the counter instead of handing it to you??
Like I understand if you aren't paying attention but when you're just standing there waiting for them to hand you the money and they just set it down hecka far from you, to where you literally have to reach for it. I sometimes just want to do the same, making them reach for it.. I dont do it but it runs across my mind,

I've been cashiering since i was 16 and im still a cashier till I finish my intern as an ortho tech but till then i gotta keep my cashier job! Maybe im just fed up with cashiering and dealing with hungry customers lol.

Just wanna see if anyone else had the same experience as a cashier..
Additional Details
Yep, and theres times when I had 4 customers in a row and i greeted them all and all just gave me a dirty look and asked for what they wanted im like "oooookk". Then theres the ppl who are pissy cuz they didnt get greeted right away.

After my experience cashiering I have a whole different outlook on others who work with public. Hats off to them cause I know what they gotta go through :).

I have worked retail for 7+ years and worked in food service for years before that so I know exactly what you mean.

For me, it is nearly impossible to pick up money off the counter. I have severe damage to my finger tips (from working with flat-top grills for years) so I have very little feeling in my finger tips. It makes things like picking change up off the counter nearly impossible.
Oh, and just try handing them their change back that way! They get all pissed and usually start yelling, "I had my hand out to take the change, why did you set it on the counter, that was really rude"
So they are allowed to be rude, but we aren't.

What made me really angry was that someone wrote in to Dear Abby about this and asked if it was rude and Abby said that the cashier was just "overly sensitive" and there was nothing wrong with putting the money on the counter. I was really made about that response and I wrote in and said that putting the money on the counter when the cashier is standing there with their hand out is only one step above throwing it at them. I never got a reply.

I once had a person give me at least five dollars in change
dimes, nickels, quarters adn of course pennies...
I calmly counted them all and then gave back a nickle and said sorry you over paid...
they got mad for some reason and went told the manager I took way to long to check them out, the manager called me into the office and started to yell at me, I started for the door, he said what are you doing, I said if your not going to listen I am either going back to work, he said your fred, I said ...I am going back to work , I am not letting the other workers go short handed and went back to work..
when I got back to my counter ( at that time it was a lunch counter) the customer left me a five dollar bill tip...go figure..
kept my job and never saw the customer again???

smile
good luck

When I was a cashier my worst peeve was when the bitchy old women would give me the stick eye for being younger and thinner than them. Some of them were downright nasty to me. ..do you ever get that?

wicked
Yes, I hate when people do that. It's entirely rude. I have actually gotten into fights with my bf for doing that to people!

kittylynn
Even ruder is when they are talking on their cell phones and never really acknowledge you- just pass the money over and keep on with their conversation.

delaineyrae
yes, thats really annoying. my biggest peeve was working at a gas station and people pumped 1 cent over a dollar and wouldnt pay the 1 cent. then when my boss told me to tell people they needed to pay the 1 cent, people told me i owed it to them for using our station!
grrrrr, the nerve

Being a cashier was my first and second job...and I am so happy my third job has nothing to do with it =)

I had never experienced such rude people. It just drove me insane the things people would do. The money thing bothered me...but our counter didn't have a lip, so I could just slide it. I tried to not make a big deal out of it, only because I didn't want to deal with the attitude that I knew was coming.

My biggest pet peeve? Money out of a shoe/sock/or bra! Ewww!

I had a big (I mean big) woman in the middle of summer pull her money out of her sweaty bra. I just looked at her. I could tell the money was soaking wet. I told her to just place it on the counter and I got a tissue to pick it up. She started screaming at me, demanding my manger telling me I was a rude little b*tch. I looked her right in the eye and told her to carry a purse next time because it is rude to expect someone to take her sweaty money. My manager came up and agreed that I had every right to not take her money hand to hand. The woman stormed out with nothing.

Oh well =)

OMG....that just gets under my skin! I don't cashier anymore, but have plenty of times in my past. I would be standing there with my hand out to take the money or card and they just set it on the counter! Maybe they don't realize how difficult it can be to pick up change off a counter when you can't just "swipe" it off the edge b/c there is a "lip" there...ugh....gosh I hated that. Plus even if it's not change, just bills, I still find it very rude and annoying! But what can you say to them?!?! *sigh* lol

Or even also when I am on the other end of the counter and I am waiting for my card and they just lay it on the counter...oooohh it pisses me off!

ugh.....I've had people actually *toss* their money to me when I worked at Mcdonalds when I was 15. Like they expected me to crawl for it.
