Stores must take ANY legal tender offered as long as they don't have a sign stating that they don't accept coins (it is legal to NOT accept foreign coins even Canadian) and DO NOT give coins in change. And must accept torn bills even if they are torn in half completely as long as you have both halves of the same bill. |

Well depends what kind of coin value it is and how much it costs. They usually turn you away because its a waste of their time to count all the coins. And slightly ripped bills still have the same value so i dont see why they wouldn't take it. |

I don't know about the ripped bills, but i don't see why they should turn away if your gonna pay them with coins, not that i would do it of course .. sounds too complicated.. hehe! . but money is money gosh darn it! , and so what is they huff and puff, if that's all i have .. then they better take it. |

I have heard they can turn you away for paying in pennies...actually, there probably isn't a set rule. I guess if you were standing in a long line with a wheelbarrow-full of coins, they would turn you away...or if you have say $500 in nickels they probably wouldn't want to do something like that.
And I have heard, don't know if its true, but if more than half of the dollar bill remains, you can use it. |

Probably not, but it sure is a pain to deal with. Why don't you use paper money in one piece like the rest of us? |

ive never heard of any doing that but i guess they can turn anyone away for any reason if they want. |

Sure, they can send you away. They can do whatever they want to do....it's there store and you're just a visitor there.
Now, it may not be good for business, but they can make whatever payment rules they want.
Stupid, but just because something is stupid doesn't mean they can't do it. |

Most stores have a policy about not taking large amounts of change as payment. Its a common courtesy thing where it takes time to count the change and affects everyone else in line. You should take your change to the bank to exchange it for bills. |

Yes IF the coins are not pre-rolled. Stores make their own individual Payment terms "NOT" the customers. |
