Yahoo answers drives me absolutely crazy. I don't know why I keep logging on to browse the questions. First of all, so many of the questions can be answered by a simple google search. Are these people too lazy to search for their own answers?? Secondly, what is with the spelling and grammar?? Can these questioners not speak or write english correctly? Using their for they're. i cnt evn reed haf the ques. cuz they be wrote lik this.!!

I agree, google would solve most problems here. Plus, many can't spell or put together sentences.

First of all, welcome to YA! I hope your initial experience won't frustrate you enough to keep you from participating.

The unfortunate side effect of a great service like YA is that you're going to get some, well, less than deep questions. In my experience, people will always look to an easy way for what they want to know. Many of them wouldn't really have a clue of how to research their questions, believe it or not. Some I suppose just couldn't be bothered, and the rest just wanted to ask a question.

You'll have to learn to ignore questions you don't want to waste time answering. It was tough for me too, but I don't have time to waste on it. Find catagories that interest you and focus on those. There are lots of great questions out there; it sometimes (but not always) takes a bit of detective work to find them.

As to spelling and gramamar, I don't know what to say. Just as in the pointless questions, there are many out there who just don't care enough to try. Why, I really have no idea. Again, you'll have to either ignore those questions or try and look past the mistakes.

If you can be patient, you will find there are many intelligent, thoughtful and curious people on YA. I have enjoyed answering many of their questions, and I hope you will too.

I think Yahoo! Answers thrives on the participation of children and young teenagers.

Maybe you should just look up your answer on the web . Some people are noy as gifted when it comes to spelling or grammer but are very gifted in other things. they are just trying to help someone in need . If this website bothers you so much your sure to get high blood pressure. good luck. and God bless.

Yeah, I could just google alot of them, but I try to ask questions that require an opinion rather than facts. And hey, as for my spelling and grammer, I never rely on spellcheck. I just proof read my q's and a's, and sorry, but sometimes, they just get past me. Hey, I'm really bored, can you blame me for hanging out here?

Unfortunately this is the new world order. You can call it dumbing down among other things. Teachers "don't want to be by troubled by students that don't fit the 'the box' of the classroom.Like goose stepping soldiers, if a child can't conform then they are herded off to the "broken rooms" there, teachers let them keep on not learning because they don't want to be bothered with them either. No, the students aren't dumb like they want us to believe. They are just victims of being unique. Like Einstien; his teachers labeled him a troubled maker and unteachable. If you ask me the teachers were the ones to stupid to teach. No to people learn exactly the same.Some learn by observing, some by hands on, or actually "building" what they are taught and others learn by instruction. Sometimes it is a case of money talks, rich students are shown how to get where they want to go. While those without, are told the best they can hope for is domestic work at best. Information and knowledge are parcled out to the best and witheld from the rest. We are made to believe that it takes a degree to check tests. Remember the tests in school? The teachers had to use "cheat" sheets to grade the papers Like cattle we are poked, prodded and pushed into believeing what is good for us. You are told you cannot punish children. But if the child breaks a rule because he wouldn't listen to you. It isn't the people who made that rule that are punished,but the child who didn't or wouldn't understand, and the parents whose hands were tied by those who held phd's'and other "so called necessary degrees." Click on the Id over 1 magic mom and read a few of my questions, heck read some of my answers to the other questions. The only college I was ever enrolled in was the college of hard knocks "life." I may not be an Einstien, but I can read and understand simple commands such as "keep out" "no tresspassing" "climbing this mountain cliff strickly forbidden." But put a collge grad in front of them and they will "go in, go across and climb that mountain" the rules be damed. I was "informed yesterday that without a degree, I am considered by the powers that be out in the world that I am unteachable and incabable of being taught. Hog wash and b___s___. But this isn't just implied for me, but for you and anyone else without a degree. Well, if that is the case then I must be an exception along with a 90 yr old man who decided it was about time he learned how to use a pc. We are living in an upside down world where old/poor/lack of higher education means you are a stupid,lout who should never work. But pay a few thousand for that sheep skin and not only are you smart, it means you are teachable and superior. Then those same people and jobs tell you "opps you are overqualified for the position." Well, dear that's just a billion dollar way of telling you that you can't be taught to do the job; because now you are too smart to be trained. Yes sometimes you will find spelling mistakes made by me and I THANK GOD I can still make mistakes. Because I can learn from them. Opps did I say learn? We put our faith and trust in a scrap of paper that says we can do thus and so, but it signifys nothing. You can become a doctor, but it will not insure you are a caring or concered one or that you are not a "quack that od's patients" now does it? There is nothing wrong having these scraps of paper. But we are putting too much stock in the paper and none in the person. Applying for a job is more like being a dog jumping through hoops for the entertainment of the person.But not all is lost for I believe we are in the last days, and if truth be told I can't wait to get off this stupid rock and be where there are some people with brains.

It's just having a little fun, gaining some knowledge from everyone young and old and helping others. I personally am on vacation and this is a fun thing to do.

I understand what you say. What i hate is when your answer is Reported, then you get and email saying your answer was removed cause inappropiate sh!t. You know what i mean.
So far i've had 2 removed, i wonder how many to be removed from yahoo answers.

Keep the Question and Answer short don't like long questions, Crop it. :)

I'm with you. I think the (grammar) problem is that many of YA users appear to be very young... 13, 14 tops. I will try to help them:

"Their" is possessive.
"There" is an adverb-- it's meant to indicate a place or position, as in, "Look over there."
"They're" is a contraction of "They are."

"Your" is possesive.
"You're" is a contraction of "You are."

I think people are coming across this site and putting in any question, no matter how absurd to see how it works. I've yet to ask a question, but I have answered several so far. (Actually, I did ask one question but after a day and nobody was answering it, I removed it. It was a question that no matter how much searching I did through Google, I could not find anything even closely relavent to what I was seeking and determined it would take my own personal experimentation to find out. (No it wasn't dangerous))

It has also become apparent people are asking questions because they know people will come in to put in their two cents worth to get the two points. I have even come across other questions asking if anyone wants a free 10 points for best answer as if they were conducting their own personal contest

I agree. The grammer is not even up to third grade level. I don't know how anyone can survive in the world today and not even be able to write a simple sentence. And yet they can use a computer. Now I can understand how a country could elect a moron like Bush for president. I don't know what is causing it but I am looking for a country where people are more educated and not so crude to move to.

I like the site but some of the questions.....expecially the ones from 12 years olds asking about love are al ittle ridiculous..........shouldnt there be like a age limit, adult questions on one site, and dumb kid questions in there own

Well, on this site you can get feedback on opinions, Google is more the go-to place for facts. Plus this interaction is fun! As for the poor grammar and poor spellers, I don't know what's going on there. Public educations, maybe?
