UK> > Can you recommend a good, fair bank? Thant wont rip me off with charges?
I'm with the cooperative, but they charge me every months for something. I'm claiming my bank charges and im expecting to have my account closed. Can you recommend a good fair alternative?

thanks

you are with one of the fairest at the moment. All banks are the same when it comes down to it, the logo's just change. At least with Coop you know that there is some form of ethical stand point.
On the charges front, why would they close your account. I reclaimed the charges from HSBC on my business account and they didn't close it.

NATIONWIDE BUILDING SOCIETY (Banking) This is a mutual society owned by members

Or CO-OP Bank

All cooperative banks and commercial banks are these same, they charge service charges for services done for customers. These are part of their business. Furthermore, if you think the charges are unreasonable, you can claim them back but discuss with them and get their reasons for the charge. If you have good reasons for them to waive the charges, they will accommodate. I had done that, and able to get the charge waived. Do not change banks just for the bank charge, you may find it inconvenient and all the hassle.

I'm with Halifax and always find that they give an efficient and really polite service. Have never had a problem with them :D

Natwest on the other hand... avoid like the plague!!! I'm in the process of contacting a Financial Ombudsman about them - the list of things that have gone wrong due to Natwest's naff customer service and just the general incompetence of the bank is just endless. E.g. Last week they sent me a list of photocopied cheques, (as part of solving a screw-up on their part of incorrectly cashing a cheque and then having the nerve to charge me £38 for their error), so I now possess photocopies of other people's sort codes, account numbers and signatures. Natwest don't seem to think that this is an issue.... AVOID!!!

Good luck finding a new bank though :)
