Never heard of Ames - but as for which is best - it depends on what you are looking for. Walmart typically has the best prices - Target tends to be higher "class" than Walmart - and their prices show that. I gave up on Kmart - they always have long lines and one register open - if they can't give good customer service - they'll never make it.

I'm not familier with Ames. Of the others, Target is the best--not eveen close. The prices are slightly higher on some items--but the quality is much higher.. The old saying about you get what you pay for, I guess.
But I wouldn't count on WalMart being able to retain their price advantage much longer. With the new class-action suit (which they will probably lose) and othe rdifficulties, they are headed for trouble. Their price structure is based on engineering an abnormally low cost of labor--and they've done so by playing fast and loose with the law. If they're no longer able to get away with that (at least on the massive scale they've been doing) their prices are going to have to go up.

I will only shop at Target. I avoid Wally World at all costs and kmart has pretty much turned into white trash city. I didn't realize that Ames was even still around.

Well..the come back king would have to be K-Mart. They filed for Bankruptcy...then a few years later. Bought out Sears. Go figure. Wal-Mart likes to build 60 super centers in a 20 house town. Target...well.. That's just an expensive K-Mart. And Ames....OMG...Ames is a joke!! there was one in around here that opened up. There prices where so HIGH...they closed in less than a year. They sucked!! I like Meijer's better myself. But Wal-Mart tends to have a better supply of standard computer equipment than Meijers does...
