Society. It's been proven that you can live your whole life without faith in God (and if you want, you can choose to right before you die, just to get to Heaven). Man wasn't given big claws or fur, so the best way for mankind to survive was to stick together. That's why humans are such social creatures. So, it's not really society that's mankind's biggest asset, but it's ability to form one is.
