Yikes, the fist answer was Ok but too in depth/formal, no offense meant to the answerer.
HAPPINESS has no strict definition. It is what it is and flows naturally, unforced.
It's relative to what your beliefs are, as to what causes joy in your own life or personal situations.
An example might be,,,I can be happy eating Coffee flavored Ice Cream, though not at all my favorite flavor, if I crave ice cream and no other flavor is available.
It is also possible to craft our own happiness based on likes, interests, feelings of what we most enjoy, or would like to explore.

Happiness really has no meaning. It is just another emotion, programmed into us via evolution to get us to do things which might add to the collective creativity of the species. A lot of people will try and sell you happiness, but don't buy it. We have a whole range of emotions to play with on our own, and we don't need to evaluate each one or try to find some way of getting more of things that someone else tells us will make us happy (this includes religions, fads, relationships, diamonds, etc.).
You have to determine what your own purpose in life is, and it may not make you 'happy', but it will give you reasons to find contentment with yourself, or with what you have done in life.

My definition of happiness is: Supporting the local lemon-aide stand in my neighborhood. Being able to help others who are in dire need, and they reward you with a smile. Basically, its the simple things in life that make me happy. I use to be caught up in the material needs, good job, great home, taking trips where ever, new cars, you know the package, trying to keep up with the Jones. I was told all the time, that I should be happy having these privileges. But I wasn't. They were wrong. I woke one day, and decided to change things. I was going to make myself happy, and not depend on others or possessions. I have simplified my life, (check out my name) and now I can "stop and smell the roses". My husband and children are much happier these days with the new simple me. Even my friends are happier. I guess its contagious. Every one makes their own happiness and until you make peace with that decision you will continue to wonder what happiness is. |

In life you will always go through difficult things either from your choices you made or just eventualities like accidents, health, etc. You have to learn to decipher what you have control over and what you don't have control over. Give God the stuff you don't have control over and decide what you can do to change the stuff you can change. |
