I'm learning english, and I have to choose which accent I will learn it.....american from new york, texas, california, or canadian in toronto, or british from london, newcastle, belfast, australian, irish from south.....
I like british accent from south, but as my native language is portuguese from brazil it's easier to learn american because of the R ....

american english accent are generally recognised worldwide as most of us are influenced by their tv series, movies etc.
I love british accent too but it's sometimes hard to pronounce some vocab. in their accent. Anyway, I'm Asian.
I would recommend you learn english with american accent.

I'd say you will learn your accent from the english speaking peoples that surround you.
Had I lived in Newcastle, I would probably have spoken wicked Geordie. As things went ... I sound a bit like I'm from the West country with some cockney but generally a Southerner. I not am native English speaker though ...

I d say if you speak flowing English you may not care about the accent.
Learn the language first.For any special accent you can join classes for accent development-its the later stage.
Nothing sounds worse than stammering in an "accent".Its best preferred to be 'neutral' |

Fluency is a high goal indeed. I would settle for something easy and build on that. American is the way to go, there is a "middle" ground here too. The world understands American English, British English is more exotic. |
